Genie Francis(Genevieve) Fired

The word is that Genie Francis who plays Genevieve has been fired. Don't know when her last air date will be. Rumors are that the cost cutting will also include Marcy Rylan(Abby). So one has to wonder if it is just cost cutting or also due to the new writing regime making changes for different future story lines. Another consideration is that in many markets Y&R is now on opposite two other soaps rather than just one thanks to Katie Couric having her way at ABC. This could prompt a fear of a drop in the number of viewers and the rating.

The Young & the Restless was not affected here by the Katie show. It's time has not changed, and it doesn't go against any other soap opera here. They just hired new writers and I wonder if they weren't paid more which resulted in them having to get rid of some people. Debbi Morgan was also let go, but I have no idea what character she plays. I guess people over there should be afraid for their jobs. Where I live Katie competes against other talk shows. And her ratings were good. However other talk shows like Ricki Lake are not doing well. Which is good because maybe it will make networks think twice about dumping soaps for more talk shows.

Katie Couric's show, at her insistence, caused ABC to move General Hospital to 2 E and 1 C/P(an hour earlier) but different affiliates may show it at other times. Where I am it means that Y&R, GH and DOOL are on at the same time and this is true in many places. I can't stand Katie Couric. I find her voice to be irritating and her personality to be annoying. Debbi Morgan plays Devon's mother and Neil's current love interest.

If it makes you feel better (and I doubt it will), I looked it up for my state, and General Hospital does not compete with any other soap operas. The new time slot actually took it out of competition with Days. I'm surprised I could find that out for my whole state.
I'm just hoping if her show does not fail, the other talk shows will. I mean good grief, Steve Harvey, Ricki Lake, Jeff Probst...does everyone need a talk show?
Where I live, The Young and the Restless and Bold and Beautiful all air before 1pm. That has always taken them out of competition with every other soap. I think the last soap opera to ever be canceled with be The Bold and the Beautiful. Evidently, it does SOOO well overseas it makes CBS a whole lot of money. Figures the half hour one would do well.

I did not know any of this!!! It has me TOTALLY bummed, let me tell you.
I like the girl GinnyV, and although (this) Abby used to get on my nerves when she first came on the show, I have grown to like her. I hope that they keep them both, but who knows what is happening with these soap operas now a days.
I read the other day that they are going to take Ridge off of the Bold and the Beautiful, after he has been there for 25 YEARS! Just insane! Perhaps you have written about this (I don't know if you have discussed the Ridge situation because this is the first myLot discussion that I have responded to in a while).
The writers and powers-that-be are giving me the blues about the soaps, but they usually get around to bringing most of the characters back one way or another.
