There is a new restaurant about to open here next week which suppose to be the first one to serve 'Bah Kut Teh' in town. Now, I thought I'm quite familiar with Asian food; but frankly, I have never heard of this one... The only word I can think of what could be the meaning from the name is 'Teh', which means 'Tea'. But I'm quite sure the name refers to food, not drink... I'd just like to hear from foodies here if they have any experience with that or familiar at all with that type of food. What is it exactly?

I guess not. Check the response below, it is more like Chinese, I think... But I was right with the word 'Teh' meaning 'Tea'; I know 'Teh' is Indonesian, but I did not know that's Chinese term for 'Tea' also.

It means meat bone tea. It a Chinese soup made of meaty pork ribs simmered in a broth of herbs and spices (including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds and garlic) for hours. Additional ingredients may include offal, varieties of mushroom, choy sum, and pieces of dried tofu or fried tofu puffs. There may be other Chinese herbs added as well. Light and dark soy sauce are also added to the soup during cooking. for a more complete description here's a link www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bak_kut_teh For the recipe www.recipes.wikia.com/wiki/Bah_Kut_Teh

Perhaps it's quite a popular dish where you are... You've been loving it all these times, and now you learned more about what's involved in it...
