I have two hard drives on one computer the problem is one hard drive won't accept xp without having 98 on it first. My problem is the computers I have the cd player won't accept my cd's. So I need to go into dos mode to install 98 on the other hard drive. But not sure what I need to put into the dos comand so it will install 98 on the other hard drive. So can anyone please tell me how to install 98 from the one hard drive? Thanks in advance. By the way if I don't respond it is because my browsers won't open some time. Oh one more question is there any way to undo the parathion of a hard drive? The hard drive is a used one and it was parathioned before I got it. Please help if you can. Thanks!

first you enter the bios and set first boot device to your hard disk you want to install 98. and enter the dos prompt and open the 98 cd and run the setup.

If i remember correctly, to install dos on a hard drive is by typing command "sys D:" or whatever drive you wanted to have dos in it. after you got dos on the drive, you can go to the windows 98 folder and type setup.exe. Btw, i'm not sure if you can do the sys command in XP environment... I don't really understand why your computer cannot install XP from CD... is your computer doesn't support boot from CD or your XP CD isn't bootable?

I am totally perplexed by this question because it appears to make little sense. Firstly, if your computer's CD drive does not work then I see no way of installing Windows 98, unless you choose the extract the CD into a folder and use a flash drive to transfer the folder to the computer's hard drive. The other, and far more strange issue, is that you cannot install Windows XP over Windows 98. Windows 98 was the 9X version designed for home use, whereas Windows XP is based on Windows NT. These are 2 quite different types of operating system, so to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows XP requires the removal of Windows 98 entirely.

just go into the dos folder where you have placed your windows 98 copy. and type setup. Windows 98 will be installed.
