do you have any kind of a phobia? I'm scared of small boats. I don't know how to explain it but I never had the courage to get in one. when I see them moving on the water it gives me an ugly feeling. it's not that I'm afraid to drown or something because I'm a good swimmer, but just the idea of getting in one scares me.

Almost everyone has fear of that. Public speaking is usually not being taught at schools. If there were opportunities, we would usually decline it even practicing it because of the fear not leaving us and usually it comes first before we do it. Some public speaking among friends and encouragements counts. Make it a habit to listen to constructive comments from others and read some tips online or in books. Thanks and happy mylotting :)

I don't like public speaking either and about what they did to your friend...that was soooo nottt nice. I remember me and my friends went to the park and they wanted to go on the lake with one of the boats. I was so scared that I couldn't do it. and they couldn't understand me either. I guess it's one of those things that you simply couldn't explain

monkmano, did you read my post - #12? I am afraid of germs and heights as well. How odd because I have felt a certain compassion towards you that is not typical of me. And now I see we have more in common than I thought. Have a wonderful day!

I am afraid of heights. Every time I'm inside a tall building I could not look down without the feeling of numbness of trembling of my knees. There are even times that in my dreams I see myself falling from a great height and i just wake up trembling after this dream.

I have Acrophobia. I am extremely afraid of heights. I wasn't always afraid of heights. It just seemed to creep up on me. Once I was walking up steps on the side of a mountain and all of a sudden I froze. I couldn't make my legs move. That's when I realized how bad it was. Now I can't even stand on a chair to change a light bulb without my knees shaking badly and I have to hold on to something. But I also have a fear of illness. I am terrified of getting sick - Pathophobia - Even catching a cold is frightening to me. I never get sick, so that's a good thing. I notice that the older I get the worse the fear gets. I'm 64. I take many herbal supplements and vitamins every day to keep from getting ill. I think it's partly because when an elderly person gets a major illness they never seem to fully recover. It seems as if after that it's all downhill and they just keep getting other illnesses and never get better again. I don't go to movie theaters because they're full of germs. I go shopping early in the morning when there's less people at the store. I avoid touching door handles if I can. The list goes on. Sigh.

hi swissheart! Funny but I'm afraid of going down the stairs, I'm so scared to fall! It's a daily battle for me since I need to climb up and down stairs anywhere I go. I make sure that I'm holding and near the hand rails. I go down as slow and careful as possible. Its weird and i'm shy about it.

Climacophobia is the fear of falling and / or climbing stairs. Have you had any bad experience with stairs that might have caused this fear?

I grew up in a 2 storey house and our living area is on the 2nd floor. My grandma told me that when I was young, I fell down the stairs almost every week. I also remember when I was 5 when I started schooling I always fell on the floor even if I'm just walking. I really don't know why. Until now I still have bumps on my forehead and I got that when I was a child. That maybe developed my fear.

I have claustrophobia. It pretty much means that if I get stuck into small place, like once i got stuck into the toilet, because the doors lock got broken. Luckily i managed to get out, before having panic attack. I remmeber when my brother, locked me for some time into ceiling and i was really got into panic mode. I am pretty certain that my phobia is from my childhood.

I had these weird phobia called Agoraphobia. This is known as "Fear Of Open Spaces or Doors". I usually spend my times in my favorite closed room. I would like to do it on my own room, being alone and just being myself only. It was being managed as soon as I was able to let go of my personal space and have it rented to someone else as this would also help my parents earn more. Now I am living somewhere down the road alone dealing with different spaces and rooms, too. For some reasons I still want to shut rooms closed, locked it so no one can invade my privacy and for me not to be robbed or anything, you know, just to be sure of. Thanks for letting me share my thoughts and happy mylotting.

I donĀ“t know whether I should call my fear of earthquakes a phobia as my country leads the worse earthquakes in the world. I am not scared of water, but I like to touch the bottom with my feet.

I am afraid of losing someone in my family. In fact, I am adventurous person, no fear to anything. With an exception of a spider with long legs, it is really scared me out of this. Argh!

Mine is Herpetophia which is the fear of reptiles. I know this is somewhat common but I always dream about it almost every night. Usually it is about hundreds of snakes chasing me. This has caused sweaty nightmares. Also, I am very afraid of Lizards especially Geckos. I feel like fainting when it's head is facing towards me. Does anyone has the same fears?
