Sneaking Food/ Drinks Into the Movie Theatre...

I don't know how strict theatres are where you live, but around here if you're caught bringing your own food/drink into the theatre you will be kicked out with no hesitation. I don't go to the theatre all that often, maybe once a year so I just suck it up and buy my food and drinks there so I don't have to worry. A trip to the movies certainly isn't cheap with all the fixings, a family of 5 would drop a lot of money in one day at the theatres so I can kind of understand why some people bring their own food, I really don't blame them. What are your thoughts or experiences surrounding this? Thanks.

Sometimes me and my husband will sneak food into theater but nothing that they don't have already there so if they do see us with it they can't say nothing. We just hide our drinks out of sight. You can be kicked out here as well for bring in your own food. But most of the time when me and my husband do go it's with out our kids since they are both still very little can't sit through a movie we use it as a date night time. Normally we go before dinner to the movie at an early time just get a drink another else and then go out to dinner after wards. Other times if it's after my husband gets out of work then we will go dinner eat and hit the late movie or not eat out at all that night and eat dinner with family and then go to a movie. It can be pricey going some times so we just plan out when we want to go see a movie.

That makes sense. It almost seems like a better idea to plan a meal around the time of seeing the movie, then you don't have to worry about food or drinks in the theatre but rather look forward to eating out at a restaurant afterwards instead.

We use going to the movies as a date night. It does work out better that way then your not hungry or you have something to look forward too after the movie. Some times we wait for people to give us gift cards to eat out and then use that and just pay for the movie.

That's a good way of planning things, less cost on your behalf for a nice night out together. Gift cards to restaurants is a common gift in my household so I might have to consider saving it for a night when we see a movie to be efficient.

We eat beforehand but we do bring in some snacks and drinks ourselves like nuts and chocolate. But they don't check bags or really catch us. I don't think they like it though obviously because they can't sell their overpriced crap

We've tried eating before going to the movies also, sometimes it's so hard to resist buying their yummy smelling popcorn though, it just draws you in.

Oh I don't look at it, it's the smell and even the atmosphere that gets me! Luckily we don't go to the theatre often so I can jusitfy getting the treats on the rare occasion that we go.

Food at the theater is SOOOO expensive.. I mean you could buy a steak dinner for the price of pop corn and a drink and a little bag of candy to eat in your lap! I would say I don't know why they do that, but of course...captive audience equals big profit. I have never heard any reports of how much money a theater earns on food...but I am willing to be (and I am not a betting person!) that it is huge!$5 for a thing of pop corn and it probably only costs $5 for all the kernals used that night to pop! I don't go to movies anymore..but when I used to , yeah, I'd sneak something in simply cause I could either afford the ticket or the food... I could never afford both. If they'd drop the price of the food, they wouldn't have to worry about people bringing their own, but since they dont' have to do that...just kick out anyone that brings food in..they make a cool little chunk of change. And it doesn't seem to be an issue..people still go and still buy the food!

I know a lot of families cannot afford to go out to the movies. I don't have a family of my own yet, however I doubt we'll be going to the movies on a regular basis because I don't think it's worth the cost overall. Sure it's fun, but I can find better things to do for a lower cost that'll be just as much fun.

Wow, I've never heard of a theater doing this. Sometimes I'll bring my own candy into the theater or I'll bring a bottle of soda or something. Between snacks and the cost of movie tickets, it's not cheap to go to the movies. When my boyfriend and I go to the movies what we'll do is split the costs up. One of us will buy the tickets and the other will buy a drink to share and a popcorn. Doing it that way helps a little when we want to get food at the theater, i wouldn't expect him to pay for it all so I feel it's only fair I help out a bit as well. I'm just shocked that they'll kick you out of a theater if you bring in your own stuff. I do this all the time and i just hide it in a big purse lol

If you're good at hiding it you're fine, but people who are caught really do get kicked out I've seen it first hand! It seems a bit excessive to do that, I know that I wouldn't want to be the employee asking the person to leave, it doesn't seem right.

In our country we don't need to sneak drinks and food in the theater for it is legally allowed. Part of the culture to bring something to eat while watching movie. The most common is the popcorn with drinks like cola.

Oh that's good that it's acceptable for you to bring in your own food at the movie theatre, this must make a trip to the movies a reasonable outing.

Well that happen in Indonesia too. My young sister ever been caught bringing some drinks to the theatre - but she just was asked to put the drinks on the security guard's table (she could take it back after watching the movie). Buying the food within the movie theatre is quite dear - I could spend more money in buying the foods and beverages than buying the tickets . But - I have ever sneaked food and drinks into the movie theatre three times - and I never been caught at all

Someone should buy a fountain pop at the movies one time and save the cup for every time you go. Instead of pouring the pop directly into the cup ( as this would become very gross to reuse it) they should just put the pop can directly in there with the straw in, then anyone looking for the "offenders" would think you're drinking a pop purchased from there.

Ah yes! The sound of pop can opening could be easily detected by anyone ,especially when you opened it right when the "silent" scene of the movie underway ... That's why I always wait for the scene where there's no one could hear me (even) screaming . But anyway, my sister was caught before she enter to the studio . It was her fool that she forgot to hide the foods and drinks . Hahaha... Well, actually I haven't heard anyone here was caught after entering the studio though... I don't know maybe the clerks was paying attention to the movie that they forgot to keep an eye for the sneaky ones
