I was invited to a party in the province of China. The party is held in a hotel with the other co-employees in an American company. As a part of celebration, they served beers. If I am not mistaken, the name of the beer is "Tsing Tao". The beer is similar to a branded beer, Budweiser. After a few hours, I felt a bit dizzy. So I took a rest for a while. The host noticed this, she managed to order a soup. When the soup came, I took a quick sip of it. One of my co-employee was smiling and laughing. I felt dismayed, then confronted him of what's going on. By the way, he works in the company longer than I do. He said, "Is it delicious?" I nodded my head, of course. He informed me that, you are sipping a bowl of turtle soup. I almost drop my spoon of what I've heard.lol For all I know, I am still tipsy. I was thinking, it is the same regular boiled meat or vegetables. Besides, I am under the liquor spell. I will just deal with it later. The following day, I was in my senses and said, what an experience? The first time to taste a turtle soup. How about you? Have you ever tried to taste an exotic local delicacies?

I have always been a finicky eater so there are a lot of foods I will not eat. I have always been very careful to avoid households that I knew served certain foods as a matter of course. For example, one of our neighbors kept inviting us to dinner but I kept coming up with excuses. See, I knew he hunted snakes and regularly cooked and ate them. He considered them a delicacy but I just had to pass.

The one thing that I ate and didn't know what I was eating at the time was shark when I was in Bologna, Italy. We were asking what we were eating and the language barrier made it very difficult for our server to tell us what we were eating. Finally, he put his hands over his head in the shape of a shark's fin and we all knew what we were eating. Now, this is not something that I ever would have considered eating on my own, but I have to admit that I really did enjoy it.

Almost 40 years ago I had some turtle stew a friend made after he caught a large turtle.. I wasn't real crazy about it, except for the vegetables!

I am like savak03, a finicky eater. I will not eat exotic delicacies most of the time. Sometimes people can convince me to eat things like quiche and rabbit. As a kid, I hardly ate the non exotic stuff. It took an incident to finally get me to eating macaroni & cheese and greens. To make it short, I was in college staying in the YMCA. One night on my way to a college party, I left my key in the door. All weekend I had to eat potato chips and candy since no one returned my keys. That Sunday, my aunt brought a church dinner of chicken, macaroni & cheese, and greens. Now, macaroni & cheese are my most favorite food. I also like greens, brocoli, and spinach.

I have a vegan diet which I am very strict about it. On a trip I usually take a lot of my own food with me. I like to eat local delicacies like passion fruit and macadamia nuts.I had those in Australia and Indonesia. I am open to trying must kinds of tropical fruit and fruit juices. I had a passion fruit smoothie in Brazil and it is yummy.

No no turtle soup for me. But your experience is beyond your control. Back in my hometown, we have a turtle pet. My nephew found this turtle wandering after a storm so he bring it home and now they are taking care of it. It's been many years already and I can say that, turtles are nice pet. I haven't had any experience like what you had. But maybe, if given the chance to have some taste-....maybe...I don't know (hahaha)

Really you have tasted a turtle soup. Are they those big turtles or those little ones. Here in our place they are endangered , so the people are prohibited in killing them, much more making them into a soup. Does it taste like fish?

Yes my father use to find huge snapping turtles while plowing the fields on the farm, and our neighbor would make up huge batches of turtle soup for everyone. I loved it, but haven't had it for years. It is said to taste like 7 different kinds of meat.
