Video games and online games are popular today and it is a great way to kill time but when it comes to children we should have at least minimize or schedule them in playing or as much as possible avoid them from playing such games. For me,I just let my son play video games or online games during his free time but mostly I do not allow him.His allowed days are only when he has no school. It is bad influence if they get so addicted to it and would not even want to go to school because of it.What do you think guys?

Too much video games makes it bad for children but if it is just their hobby because they don't have someone to play with, that would be good then. :) Video games for children who are bored or something :)

I've been a gamer ever since I can remember and I can only think of positive things that it has done for me. Sure I may play more than the recommended hour a day but in my opinion, that is OK. Video Games are always targeted as something that needs to be regulated but when a kid sits down and watches a 2 hour long movie it is OK? I have learned a few things about history from the games I have played as well. I used to play a game called Dynasty Warriors when I was little and now I know all about the Chinese dynasties and how to pronounce many of the confusing names from that era.
Online games can have a positive effect on children because when they play games like Call of Duty or Halo they have to work as a team in order to beat the other team. You can argue that a young 9 year old shouldn't be playing violent games like Halo but not all kids are the same. You would be surprised at how many kids at that age are mature enough to handle it.
Video Games are a form of entertainment that people of all ages can enjoy. If someone spends 5 hours watching a TV marathon or 5 hours browsing the Internet it is looked at as OK but when a kid plays video games for 5 hours he is looked at as an addict. At least you are interacting with the game's story or working with your team mates in multiplayer when you play games.

If it is really too much and they get addicted to it to the extent that they do play online games most of the time instead of doing their study.

one good thing that happened to my friend who is addicted to video game was the way how her mother regulate the time of his playing, she said "give a good grades in school and i give more time to play" instead of thinking that video game is bad influence she use it(video game) as a reward to her son.

I guess it's bad for children if they play too much video games or online games. They will always look forwand in playing their favorite games so instead of studying intently, they just study without concentrating. They limit their time of studying and the time of doing their homework. If we won't check them, they'd only just do their homework but not exerting any efforts.I guess their grades or performance at school will be affected. We should deal with them that they should study hard or else no games at all.:)
