By next year, my High School classmates and I will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary Reunion. All of us are excited for the said occasion. Our classmates who are now residing abroad have plans of coming back home for the said reunion. We have started on 2 fund-raising activities which will help us support the cost needed for the said event. Sadly, though, the organizing committee seem to have set their minds on exactly what they want without consulting the whole batch. We have made a group in one of the social networking sites as our primary means of communication. But just few weeks ago, there has been a little strain among the relationship of my classmates. There have been disagreements on the venue for the event. One of my classmates made a poll to know which is the venue that the whole batch prefer. There is no result yet as of this time, but apparently, someone claimed that whatever comes out with the poll, still, the committee has the last say. On my part, I think it has to be the decision of the majority. What do you think about this?

Majority or the result of your poll should be followed. The committee should not decide on almost everything. They should also hear the side of others. One common reason why reunion is not successful because there are no cooperation by its members. Some won't come because they dislike their venues or the decisions of others.

Yup! That is exactly what is happening now. The existing committee didn't like the poll initiated by our classmate that they are now deciding on making a new group for our batch. Isn't it just so disheartening?

My sentiments exactly, storywriter! The whole batch should have a say on this and not just by the committee. What they should only do is organize and make things happen and not go past the decision of the majority.

It should have been decided whether the committee appointed (was it appointed?) will have the final say in most decisions to be made for the reunion. After all, they are the ones doing the grunt work and I doubt they are being paid for it. I'm not saying that consulting the rest of your classmates for major decisions like venue should not be done, but there are a lot of factors to consider that the committee will have to contend with like availability, cost, convenience etc. So while the rest of the bunch could sound off with regards to the preferences, and there will be many differing opinions i'm sure, it's the job of the committee to make sure everything goes well and everybody is at least satisfied. So, I think the committee should have that say. It's hard enough to consult with a lot of people regarding decisions to be made and also, at the end of the day, they will also be accountable for the success of the activity. :) I say trust your committee. :D

Thanks, MelanieMay! Actually, as of to date, the majority of votes would want to make our former school as the venue, and from the choices of venue given, choosing our school will cost a lot less than the 2 other venues.
