remember i said how terrible that cortizone shot was last year. Well the new pain doctor thought i should have another and promised it wouldnt be as painful since they are using a better method now. i still wasnt happy about it but decided id be able to do it with my daughter with me. so we get up this morning early to be there by 7am. I didnt sleep but about half an hour last night for worrying over it, even though i tried all kinds of ways to get myself calmed down and sleep. I went anyway prepared to face it with daughter by my side. THEY wouldnt let my daughter go back there with me!!! by the time they got my blood pressure taken and explained that id get the shot and be in RECOVERY?? for 10 minutes, I was already having a serious panic attack. so when the nurse said, "I'll be right back" and walked out, id made up my mind, and walked out!Yes, I know, im going back to my childhood in my old age but the doctor already knew i was afraid of getting that shot. theres no good reason for me to not have my daughter there. im not in that much pain yet to get all that pain. so, guess im just a big baby but i think at my age when you feel like somethings not for you, dont do it!

You go, bunnybon! That was pretty good. I bet they were surprised when they came back and you were gone! You know, I did the same thing about 6-7 years ago. I had a headache for 3 days so went to the doctor's office that I used to have. He had an urgent care facility at his office so I went there. A doctor came in and told me they would have to do a spinal tap. As soon as she walked out so did I. I looked around the corner and there was nobody around so I just walked out as fast as I could. A friend was waiting for me and I got in the car and said "Quick, let's get outta here". Then I told him what I did. The next day the headache was gone. Isn't there some alternative to a shot? Where is the pain and what's it from? And you're right about your daughter - there's no reason for them not to let her be with you. What were they going to do that they didn't want her there? That's really bad. You did the right thing by leaving. I wouldn't go back there. I wouldn't go for something that I couldn't have somebody with me (within reason). I just told that to a friend and he's flippin' out. He said they have no right to deny your daughter being there. His mother has been quite ill and when his sister takes her to the doctor she stays with her the whole time.

thanks for not thinking im a big baby. in fact today i had an MRI and they allowed my daughter to stay right in there with me. it wasnt easy either. it was of my neck to see why this pain is going all the way up there. the pain has been bursitis in my shoulder and sometimes it hurts quite badly but its not that bad yet, plus, i got one a little over a year ago and it helped a few months is all. so whats the point right?

bunnybon dear, you definitely are not a baby for leaving that horrid place. I had terrible arthritis pains in my knees once. I also had arthritis in many joints - shoulders, etc. I began taking glucosamine sulfate, fish oil, etc. These supplements have, I think, defeated the arthritis as I have no pains anywhere at all and haven't had in 3 years. I know bursitis is different but here is a link to a site that may help you. They talk about apple cider vinegar and other natural remedies that really do work. I believe it must be organic acv. I know many people who take it for all kinds of problems and it actually works. Please take a look at it. I hate to think of you in pain. I myself cannot stand the taste of vinegar. But I'm sure there's something here that would help you.I know some people think I'm some kind of nut, one of my nieces tells me I read too much. Of course she's quite unhealthy and refuses to even take anything remotely good for her. Here's the link www.earthclinic.com/CURES/bursitis.html#ACV_42294 Another link I found that mentions some of the supplements I take (bromelain & boswellia) as well as topical preparations is www.all4naturalhealth.com/remedies-for-bursitis.html I hope you can look at these and maybe find help for your pain.

Well, I have no idea what kind of shot you were supposed to get to be in recovery for 10 minutes. Every time I have ever gotten a needle, I never had to recover for 10 minutes. But it does just sound like a needle to me. I have had many and they do not bother me. There is nothing to it. But like I said, i have never experienced a needle where I had to wait 10 minutes to recover from. That sounds painful in itself. Maybe because I just don't like waiting for anything.

My girl friends mother had to get a few of those shots. She fell a year ago and broke her shoulder. Ever since then she has been having major pain in her shoulder as well as her arm and wrist. I never got a cortisone shot so I have no idea how it hurts. I just hope I never have to get one.

Oh hon. But don't you think the worst part is what is in your head? I've had those shots in various places 12 times. They do help. I just wish you had been able to go through with it. However, why they wouldn't let your daughter go back is ridiculous. Maybe next time knowing what you did last time, they'll let her go with you. That is just silly of them.

You did right, bon. Your daughter should have been allowed to be with you. Some medical procedures are difficult to undergo without some moral support and they should have realized this. I hope that you eventually let them know how they contributed to the panic attack.

In my experience, cortisone shots are given when they do not know what else to do. My DIL had a shot last month and they said that she would be out of pain for three months but the pain came back in just over two weeks. I do not know why your daughter could not have been there. I know exactly how you feel as I lke a family member in with me. You are not a baby but you are human and there is nothing wrong with that. I do hope that you get better soon my dear

I don't blame you for not wanting a cortizone shot. After almost 1 1/2 years from the time my husband had knee/leg surgery and scrapping of the knee, he was still in a lot of pain so another doctor recommended he have a cortizone shot. We debated and debated and figured after all he had gone through and nothing helped maybe the shot would help some. I think the only reason why he did it was because I was in the room with him. It helped for a while, but now he's still in pain. So you're right go with your gut instinct.

Amen!If a grown up person can't do what they want, then what!? I don't see why your daughter couldn't go back with you! Some stupid policy that someone thought they should have and enforce. Not very often will people want someone to go back with them, but those who do those few times, what the heck, why not?!

yes to an extent, if you need it you need it and it has to be done. Maybe the doctor can prescribe a tranquiler you can take before getting the shot.

I'm so pleased you decided not to go through with it. I feel we know or selves well enough at our age to know what we need. I've heard those shots are extremely painful.

ive heard that some places it dont hurt as bad. also that there are doctors that can do it without pain. all this doctor or any has to do is show me it wont hurt and allow my daughter there so i would try it again. although it didnt help but a couple months at the most.

If it is not for you and you felt that strongly about it...I don't blame you for walking out. We are the only ones that know ourselves and I think that little voice is often there for a reason. It is your body and you have the right to choose. That pain doctor can fly a kite if he doesn't like it.

You walking out of the doctor might have come a big surprise to them! hahahah! But if you think that the shot would greatly help you, you shouldn't have left. I'm sure they know what they are doing and that utmost care is given to you.

dear bunnybon I dont see a reason why you should be ashamed and feel like a big baby. You knew what to expect there if you go for the shot and why ever didnt they approve of your having your daughter by your side......idiots. I guess I would have left as well then.

I'm with you on this bunnybon although I should add that I don't know what the doctor is treating you for. I had a cortisone shot on my toe joint once. I had been limping around with arthritus in the joint for ages and it began to keep me awake at night. The needle did not even manage to penetrate the joint, the syringe came apart and the cortisone ran out the top. The needle stayed stuck in my toe! After that the doctor gave up and suggested physio. That gave me just temporary relief but the physio told me that an operation would solve the problem. I had it and it did. Cortisone has some very bad side effects, apart from the physical pain of it. Can you get a second opinion on your problem?

thats a good idea. ive already had 2 different pain doctors that wanted to give me that shot. and i had one last year that gave me the shot. which didnt help that long. maybe i should keep looking.

I've heard of a few people having cortizone shots but dont rememeber hearing about it being painful. I think everyone I know whose had it done it was in their necks. I think if they knew you were that worried they should have given you a medicine to calm you down. They do that before surgery for people so why not before a shot if you are so terrified.
