I DO NOT Agree with the Life-Begins-at-Conception Crowd: How Wrong Are They?

Saying 'life begins at conception' is like saying 'murder begins at the gun-factory,' and that shows you what I really think. Just as murder doesn't begin until someone decides to commit murder, life doesn't begin until someone decides they're alive! What do you think?

Life is a condition, not a decision.

And I'm saying you have to 'decide' to have the condition before it's yours.

Hi, how can we possibly decide on something if it's already in there? This isn't something like having a surprise visitor whom you don't like wherein it is still up to you if you want to accept them or not.

I guess that part of it depends upon what you consider as "life". Our individual cells are alive, but they cannot sustain life in and of themselves ... they need to be a part of the whole to sustain life. In addition, our individual cells have no consciousness ... they need to be part of a larger entity in order to have a consciousness, although an individual cell does play a part in the survival and functioning of the whole being. Therefore, I think that a clearer definition of "life" needs to be made before this question can be answered.

Consciousness is not a factor in determining life, plants, simple animals and fungi are no more conscious than our single cells yet are undeniably alive. Nor is independent existence, there are cases of organisms that cannot exist independently yet are alive I would suggest the criteria for life are 1.Being composed of cells, with internal organisation 2.Using energy 3.Maintaining their internal environment 4.Responding to their environment 5.Growing 6.Have DNA or RNA 7.Are capable of some degree of movement 8.Are capable at some life stage of reproduction 9.Die A fertilised ova fits all of these conditions all the best urban

That is not life more like coming of age or adulthood. Life is a biological term, trees, plants, animals are alive and non of them are citizens we should not change the meaning of the word just to suit you all the best urban

I guess what I mean is "human life"---i.e. life over which "law" has power & responsibility. As far as 'law' is concerned--I think--life shouldn't start before '18' (or whatever they consider the 'age of adulthood/citizenship').

By your definition , many Never live. I believe life begins at 40, lol! By that time you have a better feel for this thing called life. But even by my definition many never live. So I guess the answer differs for everyone.

It doesn't to me. I really believe that everyone is different.Life lessons are taken differently. life at 40 is an old saying and back then being 40 you were old. Not these days . When 50 year olds can have babies who really knows the digit that fits us all. all I can say is follow your bliss. As a teen I thought I was suppose to die at age 18. So I tried to do everything I wanted. But thanks to my mom, I lived and I got to dream more dreams and I got to see them come true and I have moments when I felt so alive. But I was far older than a fetus when this happened. other people have this happen in highschool. And sadly others never get to feel that alive.I have changed my mind. I think life begins when it begins and it is up to the person.

Not in America, where Freedom comes with Power!... that's a dangerous saying, since some might say "Welp, the power ta take a life doesn't give you the freedom to," whence I would have to disagree, 'Yes, it does give you the freedom to; so long as you accept the responsibilities that come with taking another citizen's life.'

I'm willing to agree that I (only thirtysomething) have never lived, but have a very-good chance of living. A better chance than any fetus has! But what 'probability of life' registers as "life" in the government's book?

Hi, I think that the answer would depend on how someone value life itself. For a woman like me who is trying to conceive, I would definitely say that yes life begins at conception.

I agree to a point. There is no way of knowing if a life has formed at the time of conception that's true, BUT(yes there is a but)as soon as a woman knows for sure that she is pregnant there is no denying that there is a life inside of her. No matter what excuses people give themselves to make them feel better about their decision there is no good reason to have an abortion. Not when there are so many people out there who are desperate to adopt because they can't have children of their own. The baby is not to be blamed because of a woman (or a man's)mistakes in life or even if that woman was raped. True that's a horrible thing to go through being raped, but why blame an innocent child? Why not give that child up to someone who will love them no matter what? I just can't see any good reason to kill an innocent by having an abortion.

That is frankly ridiculous, life begins when life begins regardless of the feelings or surety of the mother. all the best urban

Well, that is a different question, we are discussing whether the unborn is alive, and clearly by any reasonable understanding it is all the best urban

But is your life happy if you are not wanted? Should it be?
