Existence

One of the many things I have come to my own conclusion on is the need for religion. Most religions, not all but most, speak of salvation, or places of good and evil you can be sent after you die, and much more promises. I haven't always felt that way and at one point of my life was part of one of those religion for fear of going to a "bad" place, before I began to wake up and see it for what it truly is. Fear. The fear of losing one's existence, their mark on the world, for the life to be meaningless and many other such things. Imagine it... You have drawn your last breath. Your thoughts are no more. Your life is no more. Your body no longer functions and you are either burned to nothing or placed in a casket and buried 6-10 feet underground. If you were perhaps murdered, your body is being eaten by different parasites and animals as we speak. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. No place above and no place below. You are dead. You are never coming back to life. Family and friends are mourning you and they mourn for days, weeks, months, years and life goes on. People are still laughing and joking, fighting for what they believe is correct and you are nothing more than a picture.. a picture in someone's house whether it'd be in a drawer, an album or hanging on the wall in a frame. It continues to be this way for years until those you left behind die. 100 years later, no one knows of your existence and you may be remembered if someone wants to search for their ancestry should your family line have continued. If it hadn't any memory of you is lost forever. However, history keeps repeating itself. In the time you have been gone, there have been times of peace, times of war, those who are at the top, the dreamers who want to reach the top, the poor at the bottom. There are still those that cheat, lie, steal, and murder all in the name of money or religion. There are still those that hold hatred for other's in their hearts, natural disasters, and those that create devastating weapons. There are also still those that fall in love, manage to reach the stars, have children, get married, and invent things for the betterment of mankind. People still argue, laugh, feel deep sadness and overwhelming joy. There are still people who want lots of power and people who feel as though power is unnecessary. There are still those that think with the fists and genitalia as well as those who think with their minds. For every good, there is equal or more bad as history has shown and it is still happening even when you are gone. If you family line continued then it everything said in the last paragraph is still true. And you shall live in their hearts only until memories of you have faded. There is no light. No divine cause and no purpose to life. Nothing. Just an urn or casket (or frozen) that is all that is left of you. If you started a building or cause or were a martyr, you may be remembered and once your memory has taken it's course, the youth of the world will forget about you in the sense they will not know you. They will not understand or care why those of old cling to your works and instead find something new they will like. This is what it would be. A lifetime doing things that you felt would make you happy, proud, and the list goes on. Then you die. In 10 years, your existence means nothing. In 10, 000 years, your existence means nothing. In 10, 000, 000 years your existence means nothing. And when the earth explodes due to our sun going out... your existence will still mean nothing. -- People fear those thoughts more than anything else. There has to be a purpose to life, a reason, a light at the end of the tunnel, or a silver lining on a cloud. They are easily drawn to things that give them answers, but sometimes there are no answers to quell our fears. There is only fact and the "reality" that we need to base our thoughts in to not lose ourselves in the insanity of thinking about the fact that one day be it today, tomorrow, or many many years from now... we will not exist.
