You know, if this wasn't planned, it ought to have been. And if it was planned, then I think it's brilliant.
Mitt Romney released his 2011 taxes today.
The left and the Obama campaign have been clamoring for these documents for months. There have been accusations about what he's trying to hide, how little he must have paid and even Harry Reid accused him of not paying any taxes for ten years.
He refused to release any more taxes, for months. Until today. And everywhere, left-wing heads are exploding. Here's an example:
Goldie Taylor of MSNBC tweeted "Welp. Now, we know Mitt will do anything to win-- including pay more taxes than he owes. Who does that?"
and...
"Never in the history of mankind has anybody purposely paid more taxes than owed..."
The problem? Mitt did pay more taxes than he owed AND donated at least %30 of his income to charity. Overall, between his state and federal taxes and his donations, it's about 44% of his income. One reason he paid an average rate of 20% is that he didn't take ALL THE DEDUCTIONS he was entitled to.
Gawd, this is rich. Now the left is angry because Mitt paid too much tax. And he did it for for the last twenty years just so he could run for president this year and fake out all the crazy media leftists.
A man who can formulate and execute a plan like that, that's who I want for president.

Well they had to say something. I agree, a person that can look that far ahead and start overpaying taxes in advance so in case he runs for president....
sorry can't stop laughing. The media is such a joke, the left is such a joke, omg but not a very well played joke

I just read this -
It is “galling to see the creative accounting Mitt Romney applied to his own tax returns. … It’s obvious he believes in two sets of rules: one for him, and one for the middle class,” said Reid, who has repeatedly claimed that Romney paid no taxes in some years.

They aren't going to give up their narrative that he just did it to look good.
Except, if they hadn't demanded he tell them, he wouldn't have released it and he wouldn't look so good. So, whose fault is that?
Truth is, Romney never meant to release all this information about his charitable giving, they made him. Either he told them or he must be a criminal tax cheat. Now that the truth is not what they wanted it to be, they twist it to make it seem like he planned this for years, just so he could look like a good guy in 2012.
I think there's a lot of undiagnosed mental illness in the media.

And his tax returns are important why? We all knew romney was rich. Most of our elected officials are. Unless a candidate is committing tax fraud then why is it important how much money they have, what tax percent they pay or how much they give to charity. None of it has to do with that candidates policies or agenda as president or their qualification to be president. So....people are getting worked up over nothing.

They are important only to answer the constant demands from the left to release them, while they spread rumors of tax evasion and perfidy.
Remember, Romney didn't want to release this information. He didn't do it just to make himself look good. No one need know about his charitable nature if they hadn't demanded to see it and suggested that if they didn't, Romney must be a criminal.
Yes, the media gets worked up over nothing. That's because their darling Obama is a lightweight on serious issues and worse, a real and present danger to the country. Everyone needs to realize that this is the most important election in our history and vote for the country and its future, not for the man or the party.

Conservatives have been saying for years that people who want to pay more in taxes - Warren Buffett - could pay more, now we find someone who does just that and the liberals complain.
What I would like to see is every Republican Senator get up in the Senate and demand that Senator Reid apologize and resign as majority leader since he lied to the American People and did so in the US Senate and abused his position as Majority Leader and as a US Senator. At Least we all know what Senator Reid's true Character is - he is a character assassin and a Lying .....

I thought it was pretty amusing until I read news stories about the Left complaining that Romney manipulated his taxes for the sole purpose of running for president. Man, I like a guy who plans ahead that far!!
If Jesus himself came down with a roaring thunder, visible to the entire world, and said that Mitt Romney was a good, decent man that followed the Lord's instructions to tithe and to help others, the Left would say that the Right developed secret technology for hologram projections from space with sound effects and pay no attention.

lilwonders, thanks. Yes, I read quite a bit after reading about the tax release. It seems many politicians on a state and federal level that increase their charity contributions when they know they are going to seek office. Good for charities but just another way to pull the wool over the eyes of the people they are supposed to serve (but they only serve themselves).

"Man, I like a guy who plans ahead that far"
Romney has been running for public office since 2002. Has run for president twice. He knew his tax returns would be asked for...always are..standard procedure for politicans. so anyone pondering or positioning themselves for public office (not just president) knows they need their tax records to look good.
You don't wake up one day and decide you are going to run for public office tomorrow...at least not a high office (president, governor, senator, etc...) You usually have to position yourself that way within your party..which takes time and money. So yeah...he planned ahead. And he had known for years he wanted to run for president so in in between elections he would be making sure everything looked good and would in place for his next run.
Politicans are always thinking ahead...they have to or they dont last long.

No one likes to be shown up for being the lying cheat they are. Obama and his supporters in Washington think that just because THEY lie and cheat, everyone must do it.
I am reminded of 2008.
The left bent over backwards explaining away every concern people had with Obama and his campaign and later, his presidency. He could do no wrong.
Now, they are just as vehement in defending him still. And bashing Romney is part of their continue delusion. But it is obvious his whole house of cards is falling to anyone who cares to see it.
I almost feel sorry for them.

They created a narrative. They figured to use the tax returns question all the way through to the debates. Romney's returns should have put an end to it, but they are so deranged, they find ways to make his paying taxes and giving to charity part of some evil plot. There are people on thorazine who have fewer hallucinations and delusions.

Obama is a manufactured president and candidate.
And it is starting to fall apart on him as people wake up. And they ARE waking up despite what our liberal myLot friends think. They've been ignoring the alternative news sources and still trust the MSM to paint their worldview for them, then pat themselves on the back for being 'better informed' than me or you cause 'we all know' how unreliable those sources are, 'we all know' that the Malkins and Breitbart readers are stupid to believe the right wing blogs.

You can show the liberals all the videos of Obama saying one thing and then saying the opposite, or spinning what he said, or out right lying and insisting he didn't say it, and they will not believe what you show them. They'll tell you, don't trust that link, it's YOUTUBE....as if a video of Obama's FACE and VOICE can somehow be faked. LOL
I'm spending less and less time on myLot simply because of the liberals who try to 'debate' without facts, who want to make all of it about Bush, who think cause their in college and are 'rational' not 'emotional' they know more, who think links you provide are bogus (but aren't trying to offend you by saying so) cause the MSM and Obama say they shouldn't trust these sources. I'm tired of people who do not have a clue. It just isn't worth it to spend days on here trying to show someone the truth when they'd rather believe a lie.

Let's see the article I read said he paid 14.9% of his taxes for the year. I paid 15% and make a lot less than he does. My husband also had to pay 15% as we choose to file separately. We paid 30% in taxes collectively... Romney paid 14.9%. Interesting.
No, I am not mad at the man for paying taxes. I applaud him for paying taxes and would do so more IF he claimed none of the charity on his tax returns. Unfortunately for Romney, I think his statements at this point are speaking louder than his tax returns. This would have worked early on, but now... after his comments and the GOP filibuster on a Veterans Jobs Bill.
He has a lot to make up for. Had this been at least a month ago, I could say "Wow, what a fantastic strategic point." as I will give credit to where it is due, but this just looks like damage control. I posted a discussion on charity going into it a bit more. Did he give charity or make an investment? And it is only charity if he got NOTHING for it.. no recognition, no tax deduction, etc.
So if he didn't gain a thing from it... then I thank Romney.. for paying close to the same percentage as me, if not... glad he paid taxes now he needs to fix the idiotic things he has said and done to make him lose favor with some of our veterans and elderly. To hell with him or Obama, our veterans deserve everything they can get for their service and our elderly have worked for it.

When you paid your 14% was the check you wrote to the IRS in the six figures? There's a huge difference between your 14% and Romney's 13% and it isn't the number 1.

So Aida, if you filed separately, then you voluntarily paid more taxes than you needed to. Another reason why our tax code needs to be reformed, the penalty for married, filing separately.
"And it is only charity if he got NOTHING for it.. no recognition, no tax deduction, etc. "
In that case, nothing that anyone gave to charity is really charity because they all get a tax deduction for it, which they are entitled to by law. In Romney's case, he didn't take the full deduction he is entitled to because he made a pledge never to pay less than a certain tax rate. As for recognition, it wasn't Romney's idea to release all this information that makes him look like such a saintly and generous person. He tried to avoid that. But no, the press wouldn't let him, the Obama campaign wouldn't let him. They kept insisting that he release his tax returns, bring it all out into the open.

So if Aida and her husband paid 30% COLLECTIVELY, then they INDIVIDUALLY paid about the same as Romney..15%.
