are you willing to exchange your health for money?

September 22, 2012 8:35am CST
most of you would surely say no but I have noticed that some people are doing this unknowingly. they work hard to earn more money but their own health suffer in the end. when they get sick, they used their wealth to save their health but sometimes, it's already too late. they say when you run so fast, you will miss the real meaning of life.. we can be happy for the simple things that we have in life. but then all of us have different perspective about this. what's your view here?

I won't sell my health for money cause I knew I cannot buy health with money. If I work so hard till my health affected, then when I got that money, I probably cannot enjoy using that money cause I'm not healthy or sick at that time. I'm talking about serious sickness like injured and have broken leg, hand or so on, or a sickness like hearth attack, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney, etc. Sure you cannot turn back yourself from unhealthy due to the mention disease to healthy. Medicine can only control it not to cure it.

Yes we will be happy just for a short time. When get ill, then all the wealthy is no use anymore. We can just look at what we achieve but unable to use it. Actually we getting old, and it's easy for us to start having all the sickness or disease. But, all of this sickness and disease actually come from our habit and appetite. Most thing that we eat cause a long term effect to our body. At first it gives energy but their balance in our body that not being used will cause a sickness and disease. For example, to much taking sugar in our drinks and food will cause us diabetes later on. Too much salt in our food also will cause high blood pressure. Well, sometimes I feel worry to eat. For rich people, they tent to have more disease because of their eating attitude, they got a lot of money, they can eat anything.

maybe we can be happy for a short period of time if we are wealthy but time will come that our wealth can't do anything to save our health. Medicine cannot even control our health as we aged. It seems sickness is part of the aging process.

I have been ill for past 12 long years and I know it is non-curable. Now for the question on the headline - what illness and what money are involved? That would help me decide better. For the content on the discussion - I agree with what you say. But then, age has definitely a role to play here. If you are young, you got to run for life - you are so very energetic and need to run for it is the life... But when you are ill for long, and aging, definitely running is not going to help ya in any way... only too bad for many things.

Hi Sidhu You've put some good points here. There is also a point of compelling situation, that has to be considered. What else we can do rather than running, if other family members' conditions are worse than ours. Your new avatar is also good.

hi thesids. I understand your situation although I am not ill like you..I wish you a good health soon. yeah young people normally are energetic and care less for their health. there are situations like this that leave family members worry much. as a result they work hard, forget their own health for the sake of their sick family member. and that is the power of love. we care so much for the people we love and forget our own health. I think we should care for both equally..

Sometimes, particularly when a whole family depends on a single person, there is no other go, I think. Probably he/she may find a better job, but he/she may hesitate to risk as it would affect his/her family. In some cases, it is mere exploitation. It happens in the Public sector mostly. You may know, the public sector jobs are more secured. So, some people are more exploited just because they wish to stick their job. The higher authorities take advantage of it.

Hi venky You definitely are right when you say - when a whole family depends on a single person, there is no other go - I saw this happening when I was on the bed for 8 long months and my wife did all and everything that she could - to keep me alive, to make me feel loved and also to take care of her job, her students and also her studies. I guess it is more common in middle class of families where they have a lot to do to chase their dreams And yes, thanks for appreciating my response dear friend

yeah circumstances in life like being in a a very hard situation forced us to work hard to the point of compromising our own health.. sad but this is the truth but we should always try to balance everything. I agree public sector jobs are more relaxed and I don't want to be there.. those in higher authorities especially in government sector are really working less. poor men do the hard work.

Well I will put it the other way around, I would exchange my money to health. It is better to have good health than having so much money but sickly and unhealthy. Balance and time management is really important. Healthy lifestyle is recommended for us to have a better and healthy living.
29 Sep 12
yes it is very important to have a balance life style. of what benefit it is to have massive health if we will get sick also and will not be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
22 Sep 12
Hello jobfindonline greetings. The first reaction would be, no one will do that. What is money when you are sickly. But sometimes, because of financial difficulty some people are being forced to do it.
29 Sep 12
I understand that because of financial difficulty people tend to compromise their health in exchange of having money that they could use to cover their every day expenses in life.

I think it's the best to balance both. I mean we do need money for life but when you lost your health in proccess, it has no meaning. When we got sick, we can't even doing any our passion and what we want to do in life, in short we don't even can get to enjoy life, with all those money it'll be easy to enjoy life but when we're not healthy, there is no meaning in it.
23 Sep 12
yeah balance lifestyle is important. we also need money to take care of our health and family. what is not good is if we work too hard and abuse our own body. money can give us happiness but is often not the source of true happiness. some people are wealthy but they cannot buy their health or life if a serious sickness strike them.

No way no how! Money can't buy you happiness and it can't buy you health. Aside from that even if you wre rich would you want to be rich at the sacrifice of your health and quality of life

i wanted to share an adage about health but i forgot it. it's pretty much the same idea that you convey. very true, some people are so driven that they need to also guard their health while working to earn a living. there's a lady, my mother-in-law shared her story, who had kept on working day and night, wanting to get rich. she got successful and owned a mango plantation which harvest had given her profit she couldn't imagine she'll have. then one day, she was blind. all the comforts and the fruits of her labor she cannot see anymore. when they went abroad to find a cure, the doctors said there's nothing that could be done. it was all too late. such a twist in life that really shocked many. i hope this would make us all think also to take it slow and give importance to our health. nice topic, btw.

a pleasant day jobfindonline, with reference to your post, i for one will not definitely exchange my health condition to a certain amount of money. though i am spending a lot of time extension to my task to earn more, still, i am after the welfare of my well-being. aside from that, the reason why i am really working is for my self wellbeing.

That is the hard truth, jobfindonline. As much as possible we wouldn't want to get sick coz we know that it would mean additional expenses on our end. Being over worked sometimes, we are no longer aware that our health suffers. But then, with how our present situation right now, doing some extra jobs is really needed just to make both ends meet for the family. And that is nothing we can do but work and work for the needs of our family.

Good comments here. I would not trade my health for wealth, as long as I have enough for food clothing and shelter I'm happy. I once held a job where I could see it was starting to affect my health because of the stress factor. I changed positions withing the company I was working for a less stressful one and have never regretted it. Health is much more important to me because if you have that you have everything.
23 Sep 12
having enough food and clothing could sustain us in this life.. we don't need too much if what is at stake is our health. what is the benefit of our wealth if because of exchanging our health for wealth, we only have limited time to live? you are right, if we have health it is as if we have everything.

hey thanks a ton for such a wonderful discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right. There are scores of people on this earth who just for the sake of earning huge amount of money, put their health at stake. I do not understand that by doing this what kind of pleasure and happiness do they derive. In the process they only put their health at risk and later on complain that they had suffered because of lot of pressure and work. They are running after money and in the process, they are loosing out on many things like family, relationships and most importantly their own health. What say?
23 Sep 12
many tons of thanks for appreciating my discussion. I think the pleasure that people get for working hard is having a wealthy life but they realized in the end that it's all in vain. what is wealth anyway if we will lose our relationship, money, and health? yeah people sometimes or let me say most of the time have no satisfaction with what they have in life.

I think I would strike a balance between working and earning enough and at the same time watch out for my health.
23 Sep 12
definitely I'll go for this one too. we can still work hard but not to the point that we compromise our health. like what you said, we should take care of our health.

I agree, people work but suffer in the end. To become rich, we work hard unknowingly our health may suffer due to we abuse ourselves in working. We're only human that have limitations in our body cycle but we don't have any choice to limit our limitations if we have big responsibilities in life. We need to sacrifice until we're satisfied and that satisfaction maybe our next generation will not suffer what we became.

No. I will never compromise my health in favor of money. Health is still important to me even if I do not have money. Just give me good health.

I would say to each his own. Wealth without health may give some hope (for medical or miracle cure). Health without money may be suffering every day of the rest of your life. Why not have health and some money, but not necessary wealth and hopefully not going hungry or to be in want.

I do agree with you and understand what you mean. That is so true. There are so many people who hard very hard working and work diligently to make more money. Only to realize that their health has suffered drastically. It is sad to see that happen. But it just goes to show that often times those who are hard working aren't able to make what they need.

I will surely not.. maybe It just depends on some situations when and where I will exchange my health for money. Some people here in my country exchange there health for money by selling their own kidneys for a $4,000. Too sad because some of them didn't use the money for the better future, they think that money is limitless. I've seen this documentary about them and some of them just used the money to buy Television, sound systems, electronics and some other things that is not important.

I remember when i was just a small kid we were a bit poor. My father always worked very hard but he never stopped (unless it was vacation time) Only once he became sick, he blew out his back. Which actually happened at home. Only then he had to go to the hospital for a week which didnt really matter since the health care is very good in our country. Now that i am older (21) i also work hard. But we both work different then the ones that get sick. Others bend wrong, eat wrong, drink wrong, sleep wrong, sit wrong, bad shoes. We both work hard but..... its different.... We see others work hard and they become ill but when we work hard we only get stronger. with the correct diet and the correct movements the only pain we feel is in our muscles, which will make them grow stronger (and bigger!). You should not just work hard. You should work smart! see your job as a car. You can decide what motor, battery and wheels you put in/on it. Our wheels are circular, our engines get the correct fuel and our battery recharges correctly. Others have cares with triangular wheels, they put in a fuel that may work for a while but will kill the engine. And they recharge their battery only half which means their battery will keep getting weaker and weaker. First use your smarts and THEN you use your muscle. It will be harder at the beginning but after a week you will start to get accumulated to it and slowly grow stronger and stronger.
