I learned how to wrap a sari last night!

I went over to my friend's home yesterday for an evening of food, dancing and sari wearing. We had been planning to get together for quite a while and once we finally set a date I very excited. I had been looking forward to this evening for weeks and when it finally arrived my car wouldn't start! Everything came on (lights, chimes, etc.), but when I turned the key all I heard was clicking. Once I was able to jump the battery and get underway I finally made it to my friend's. The foods and music were not really new, except for the dosas and idli. The dancing was a lot of fun, and I learned some things I didn't know about wearing a sari. For instance, I never realized there was an underskirt. It was a lot of fun and I hope we'll get to do it again.

The most difficult thing about a sari is to walk with it, if one is not used to! Did you get the hang of it anyway?

Funny you should say that. One of the older male guests made a comment about that very thing and I told him what I am about to type to you - even as a very young child, I would lift my skirt a little to allow me to walk when wearing a long dress or skirt. It's just natural for me.

That would spoil everything Canel... Sari is a graceful attire and lifting and walking would spoil it all. You better practice at home and then venture out!

Oops, somehow I missed your last response. I still have to get one of my own to wear and practice with. Perhaps this summer I'll find something I like within my budget.

Don't know why I never responded to this... There are a few sites on the web that show how to wrap them and there are a few sites that actually sell reasonably priced ones. If you don't care about the fiber content of the fabric I think you can get one for around $20. You could also get some fabric on clearance at the fabric store and practice with that.
