i've read this article about cages being built where they would put the beggars in. there was this religious festival in china where hundreds of "pilgrims" visit a temple. and amidst this crowd, there are beggars roaming around asking for alms, to the extent that most visitors are already becoming uncomfortable with them. so what's an official to do? they built up cages in one section and they plan to place the beggars inside those. more like (as the article says) beggar zoo. of course, visitors could still give them alms. it's just that beggars wouldn't be roaming around anymore. some say it's cruel, while some favor it. i for one would be annoyed by these beggars, but i also would not want to see them in cages. i would prefer they rid of them altogether, even only for the duration of the festival.

I never hear such practice, not until now. That’s really very interesting to know. I’ve been to China for a year, but I never encountered such things. Thanks for sharing it. If they do such a thing, I think it is not appropriate for beggars to put into a cage. The act is inhuman in the eyes of concern citizen.

thanks shavkat. i think that circumstances should be weighed in. perhaps the authorities could really not control the beggars roaming around. if you were the average tourist in the area, you would be annoyed and even irritated if a beggar keeps pestering you, or if beggars are lying everywhere in the place. yes, it does not seem humane, but what best to do to keep them from roaming around the place? ban them altogether may be the easiest. but can they do it?

For such reason, it is fine for their government to have a facility conducive for beggars. It can be a sector that cater people who are vulnerable like the beggars. Good day!

i wouldnt like beggars hovering over me too but i dont think putting them in cages would be humane. that would be so degrading. even beggars have pride.

uh.. i don't think i share that thought. to beg puts your pride off enough, and to be a beggar seems to be way lot more. but thanks for your opinion.
