Surprised to see many responses

We have some 'superstars' here in myLot who start a discussion and people start flocking to be able to respond and give their piece. now, I on the other hand, do not get that much of an audience. I get an average of around 8-10 responses and sometimes i even get a measly one. So when I get more than ten that surprises me! I don't know which discussions are engaging or not. I just start a discussion that pops into mind. Anyway, as long as I still find ti fun and interesting, i'll keep on posting whether i get lots of responses or none. How bout you! Do you get lots of comments? Happy myLotting everyone.

Sometimes I get more responses on discussions than other discussions that I start. As long as I get one I know I engaged someone's thought and I am happy with it. =) Mylot should not be a popularity contest although sometimes I feel that is exactly what happens. Some people will not admit that but it's true. If you have a bigger number by your name, no doubt you will get a LOT of repsonses. It happens all the time. Is it discouraging to others? Yes. Is it fair? Nope. Does it happen every day? Yes. Do I like it? Not really. Lol. Don't give up though because if you have one response you should be happy! Someone found your discussion interesting out of the many here.

wow... so many questions and answers. it doesnt seem like you need someone to discuss with, it feels like you are having a conversation with your computer im so glad that you found my post interesting LMB. echoforever, those myLotters that you are describing are the one who are on myLot solely for the payment. they pick keywords that they want to reply on, make a senseless comment then move to another post. not engaged at all. . Good thing you're not one of them.

Well, I was going for something different, more interesting than the same old way of responding. Lol. Is that okay with you ddaguno? I am usually boring and straight to the point with my responses, I was just trying something new!

I like that "I engaged someone's thoughts" that's important on here but some people even if your discussion or comment IS great, they won't notice because they won't read the thing anyway but only pick out key words to make a comment from that.

I am surprised sometimes the amount that I do get! There is I think only one discussion I started with a 0 response and the others all have at least 3... some have a lot more like 24 or something crazy! That makes me really happy though when I see it. I don't know why I get that many but it makes me smile. I try to respond on all comments that I receive and also be interactive in any discussion i am in whether it is mine or someone elses.

I know! I feel a sense of pride when I see that. It is good to know that some of my writing here is accepted by many to write on and not just passed by.

thanks dear, i do get lots of friend requests and i accept all of them but i turn off notifications so i dont get updates when they make post. some members probably keep their notifications on so they know when their friends have posted. you do get more acquianted with people when you see their posts more often. maybe i should change my settings

When I first started here some of the "superstars" were getting 8 or 9 pages of responses. My best ever was 6, from memory, but that was 3 years ago or so. But then there are some discussions which may only get 10 or so initial responses, but some of those responses turn into monsters. I have one going at the moment which I abandoned 3 weeks ago, but two of the responses are still generating posts, and one of them has almost 100 comments in it. (I might be exaggeraring, but not by much.) Lash

I got curious and checked. One response now has 96 posts, another 56, and a third 40. The subject was religion, and even though I have stopped beating my head against the brick wall, four or five others are still standing there, face to face, swinging axes and swords lol. I'm glad I'm out of it. Lash

Whats more, Koop, is that many of these posts are half a page or more long, there must almost be a small thesis length book there. Lash

I love your description of this. That is exactly what is happening over there. I can get into stuff like that for awhile but I don't keep plugging away that long even if I believe I'm right. I just get tired of it.

I feel the same way too. When I got more than ten responses that's a real bonus for me What matters most is the fun that we felt while having fun with other mylotters

yes, a bonus would be an appropriate word to describe it. and it really is fun especially when the conversation becomes funny and your post starts to look like a chatroom wall

I think it mostly depends on the topic you post. Some topics will attract more responses while other ones won't get very many. I also think that sometimes, we get really attached to another myLotter's story and when they post more information in their stories we feel inclined to answer them and give our advice or support, because they're our friend in myLot. Sometimes I will get lots of comments on a discussion but it mostly depends on the topic. I don't think people answer me all the time just because they know me and want to respond.

I usually don't get a lot of responses, just around 6 to 15 responses and that already satisfies me. As long as it's not just 3 or 5 responses then I'm good. I know some mylot superstars you're referring to and I also get amazed at them by how quickly they get responses. I think that's because most of their topics are really that interesting and because they already have a lot of real friends in Mylot, that's why more people respond to their discussions.

friends really matter here. sometimes i look forward to the discussions that my friends make so i can quip a funny line or help them out with their concerns. so if one person has 20 friends that wait for their posts then for sure they will get plenty of responses

i do not notice the 'superstars' these days. i was gone for a while maybe that's why. some of them deserve to be superstars anyway. at times, it really puzzles what or why a discussion attracts many participants. like you, i just write what i wanted to right (but it has to be sensible enough) never expecting anything. there was one discussion i made 11 months ago that gathered 141 responses. it's a shock that to see mylotters get interested in a topic that is not really controversial but only asking if one bothers getting the latest cellular phone. i guess the discussion was timely that's why. it feels always good that a discussion is appreciated. a negative response is still a response to me.

yes, i have seen superstars in here. sometimes i call them angels, or legends or the idol cause they seem to be too good to be true... yeah, there are people here whom i call my own taglines. most are like superstars cause people seem to be hypnotized when they start a topic. I don't know how they do that they seem like to have magnets that attracts people to get in line. some i've seen have 50 plus to a hundred comments. which is really crazy, I think. they always have time to comment back on those in a short time. In my started ones, I am lucky to have more than 10 or 20. I don't have much audience to say. But I always try to comment on to all those responses I get. and make it a point to make it longer and have continuous conversations which is really fun specially when you know you are both enjoying talking at the same time, earning as well... Once, I have a friend told me that don't worry about the number of discussions you'll have. just post whatever you like to, for there will always be people who will come at you. even if it is only one, be greatful and try to keep the conversation going. to make the one response a long and exciting one.{em]cheering[/em]

I guess they will be times they are talkative and times being silent as well. I know all people have different kinds of sharing things to others and expressing themselves. It just differs sometimes who they are talking to. do you agree?

those are good terms i guess those people are just more engaging than us. i wonder if they are also more talkative (if ever we meet in person)

We do start some discussions, just so we can express what we have on mind on that very moment. It is not in our mind if it wlll have lots of responses or not. Hence when we see a lot of responses, we feel elated and happy, but overwhelmed on how to be able to answer them all at once.

that is so true. replying to each and everyone who responds is very difficult when there is a lot of them. if they are just5 or 6 you wont even break a sweat responding

I was also surprised when I got the 70 responses on my anniversary discussion but the sad thing was after 4 months the discussion is deleted. Here audience is more but some are waking up and other are sleeping or busy in other work. I also get 10 to 20 responses on an average. But on my funny discussions I got 40 to 50 responses also.

I'm not much of a discussion starter. Mostly here I enjoy reading discussions started by others and post my response or comments whenever I can relate. I also observe, as you mentioned, some myLot 'superstars'; through their participations they have built themselves to earn that status. Not necessarily by how long they have been here; I've seen those with less than a year here who are also well received by the community... By the way, "do you get lots of comments?", you asked. Not really; I'm lucky if I get a handful of response to any of my discussions. A number of them went unanswered too. But I am enjoying this site so much.

me too. i find it easier to look for interesting discussions than start them. and yes, i guess it doesn't matter if we become superstars or not as long as we are happy being here

Hi ddaguno! Well, some of my post would get more responses over the others. In any way I am happy because they can somehow relate to those posts. There are times Ispent most of my time making a comment to those responses but I love it. However, some time I feel sad because I could not find enough time to make a comment. But I make sure to read all the responses and I am thankful for the friends I have in here. Have a nice day!

its just hard to comment to the response when all the comments you get are the same. thankfully some mylotters take their time to read other peoples comments and not just repeat what has already been said

I usually get many answers, but on the other hand, I only make one or, at the most, two posts in a day. I would not expect my friends to answer 10 posts if I wrote them and I would not know what to write about in 10 posts in a single day. I am not interested in answering posts about nothing. And some people have that speciallity. They tell us what they ate, at what time, when did they live home and how long it took them to reach their work. OMG!!! I´m not even interested in that about myself. I often answer those posts that interest me, whether they are form friends or not.

It just depends on how it catches people. I started a discussion this afternoon which has already had two pages of responses, yet one I started last week, which I thought would appeal to more people, only has 7. I don't particularly start a discussion with the hope of getting lots of responses - I just think of something that I'd like to share with others and take it from there. The most important thing is to manage your discussion and respond back to people - that way, people will enjoy your discussions and look out for more of them.

ddaguno: to a large extent it depends on the topic of discussion. A topic like this evinces more participation. Also it depends on our friends. Some friends will respond to most of our discussions. so we should have more friends. that will help.

Some time I got lots of responses because my discussion was in top list. First day, first discussion and on first position. But some time get only few responses but I not worry about it. I stated lots of interesting discussions like read news paper in toilet and more.

The number of responses for my discussions depend on how active I am. If I am active on my discussions I just used to get a good number of responses. Sometimes due to some reasons I will not be able to give comments to the responses during those time I just used to receive less in numbers. During those times I feel really sad at myself for doing it but still I just adjust myself to comment for one or two.
