i recently got some samples of raw dog food at the local pet food store. They say it is good to gradually incorporate raw food into the dog's diet and it will be a source of relief for allergies.Has anyone used these kinds of foods? They are usually freeze-dried or frozen.

The vet that I used to work for always said that you had to be careful when giving dogs raw meat, because it could potentially make them mean. I have never fed any of my dogs raw meat, so I can't say from personal experience whether that's true or not, but I did read that people who fight dogs incorporate raw meat into what they feed those dogs.
Also, I have never heard of raw meat having anything to do with allergies in dogs. Did the pet store say what ingredient in the pet food was supposed to help with this? Or what connection it has to allergies? All I know about dogs with allergies is giving them a vet recommended dose of Benadryl.

That's a myth about raw meat making a dog mean. Dogs are carnivores and for centuries before man domesticated the dog he lived on things that he killed himself (raw meat). I have raised Dobermans, Pitbulls, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, etc. and have always feed my dogs a supplemental diet of raw meat. Pit fighting dogs may be fed raw meat but it has nothing to do with them being aggressive. The aggressiveness comes from the way the pit dogs are treated. They are deprived food and are put in pits and forced to fight. You're right raw meat don't have anything to do with allergies in dogs. Some dogs are allergic to certain types of dry dog foods because of soy products, wheat middling, or corn gluten. I had one that was allergic to soy. It took a couple of years to narrow down what my dog was allergic to. Those three ingredients can also, during dry seasons, develop aflatoxin and cause aflatoxin poisoning. Benadryl is good for allergies, but in case of a food allergy, the food or ingredient that's causing the allergic reaction needs to be singled out.
