Okay i have been in a fix since 3-4 months for deciding the above question? Too dumb, i guess:/ But guys I need your help seriously I can buy a treadmill, I have checked at a store its gonna cost me around 200$. Or I can enroll in gym for around 30$ per month. Going to gym will motivate me more, while the taxi fare will cost me extra 30$ for that (no gym is near enough :/) Buying a treadmill will be better, because it will be one time bearing of expenses. But I don't think i'll be motivated enough:( What to do?? Seriously, need to lose weight:(

If you need motivation, then gym. If you don't have the motivation, buying treadmill will not help, instead it will be a useless machine sitting in the basement like most people. In addition, a good treadmill will cost more than $200-300. Gym will have a better equipment, their treadmill will be more sophisticated. With other people around you running in treadmill, it will pump you up to go on the machine. You may also end up going to a different gym equipment. Just by looking at other people exercise, it may encourage you to try other machine. Treadmill is not the only machine to loose weight. You also need to do strength training. Gym will have cable machine, weights to help you with the strength training. Gym will also have classes, so if you feel bored from treadmill, you can do classes. If you are not committed to exercise, I suggest gym membership is better. Find a gym that is on your way to office, or close to office. That way you don't have to spend extra $ for taxi. Or find a gym that is accessible with public transportation.

Maybe it would help to "Search the Web" (atop the page) for 'Get Your 30' to find out how you can get all your exercise for the day in between all the work you do at home or the office

I think I would get a treadmill at your situation, it is gonna cost you 200 bucks then you better run more and more to make it worth a while, it doesn't sound like joing a fitness centre is a good idea for you since you will have to travel, bring clothes and memberhsip fees(and usually they make you to sign a contract for a period of time, if not, then it just costs more monthly). About the motivation thing, I think you just gotta do it, maybe watch TV while you are running on it?? I think it helps, put a movie on then focus on watching and running and you can somply start walking then jogging then running mild and so on. I hope you can lose weight soon!

I think going to the gym is better motivation. You may buy the treadmill and end up just walking past it on your way to the T.V. or the fridge. Maybe at the gym, you will be more inclined to workout and you can also use their steam room and get help from trainers.

Hi night01watcher, If going to the gym would really motivate you to lose weight then do it.Go enroll yourself in a gym.I think the most important thing here is to lose weight so if it motivates you to exercise while in a gym,go for it.

Personally, I went the treadmill at home route. I like to sweat in the privacy of my own basement :) As for the motivation, there are lots of ways to stay with it. Right now I am using an app on my iPhone called Get Running that follows the Couch to 5k program. It starts with very manageable running intervals and works you up to running for 30 minutes. I am out of shape, so I jog very slowly. I finished the program and am now starting back from the beginning to increase my speed. Also, listening to upbeat music really helps me. There are also online communities you can use to chat with others who are making healthier lifestyle choices and kind of help each other be accountable for your goals. Check out the weight loss forums on WebMD or check out the My Fitness Pal community. Good luck!

This have got to do with your lifestyle friend! When you are really in need to make yourself fit and healthy, you must be totally motivated to also guide yourself to just eat healthy foods of fish like salmon and mackerel, fresh vegetables, have at a local fresh fruit every after meals made. You must only eat white meat from chicken and other poultry like turkey,a little red meat without the fats to be trim out.I think your meals are just steam,a soup, stew or smoke and stay away from frying. You must drink only skimmed milk or a fat free milk. You could also prepare a freshly blend fresh fruit,it could be one fruit or a mixture of more fruits.Have plenty of water and give your body enough sleep to rewind yourself and make ready to your exercises for that dream fit body you wanted to become. You better not purchase one treadmill because it would just make your house space smaller to roam around. It is very practical to just enroll in a gym,so that your trainer might provide you a better diet scheme to suit your wanted body, when it is successfully done.

I would rather buy a treadmill because I'd be able to use it any time of the day and any day of the week without ever leaving my house whereas the gym takes riding a bus or a car to get there and it's not motivating because it will make me lazy just to get out of the house and also I don't like working out around people.

I would much rather buy a treadmill rather than go to the gym, because it means that once you have paid for it you don't have to pay for it again, and you don't have to leave the house to be able to use it. One of the bad things about joining the gym is that once you've joined, you have to go regularly or it isn't worth it. And you're often tied in to a yearly payment which might get up to £500 for the whole of the year. It is much cheaper to buy a treadmill and then you can use it for years to come. However, you can get a much better effect from going outside to run in the streets. That is free, and it is much more interesting than it is to just run on the spot.

Hello nightwatcher! :) If you have the budget to buy treadmill, then go for it. It's better to have your own than travel first just to get to the gym. You know, it just takes the spirit and willingness to stay fit. maybe you could have tv set in front of your treadmill so you can get motivated and watch fitness styles while jogging in your treadmill. It's all in the mind. Tell people living with you to encourage you more to stay fit. If there are people who can help you motivate yourself, you can get through those. Just like in Biggest Loser show or other shows which stays fit, they motivate one another to help their ownselves get fit.

If you really wanna lose weight then think of the most convenient for you. But if I were you, I would just buy the treadmill coz I can use it anytime and for as long as I want to. This would not be sitting on your floor for a day. Your $200 is good until the treadmill is broken. I'm sure it wouldn't get broken right away.

Well i would recommend u to get a treadmill for yourself rather than enrolling at the gym and i have a logic behind that. Well hitting a gym needs regularity from your side which means u need to go to gym on time and there may be times when u might not find time to go a gym due to work commitments. In that case having a treadmill at home is an added advantage. If u are unable to go to gym in the morning then u can use the treadmill in the evening or at any time u wish to exercise. So i think it would be better to get a treadmill rather than moving to a gym. If u are unable to handle the expenses for a treadmill then u can always go for a walk or do exercises at home by yourself. What say?

Go for a treadmill, it is the perfect answer for a busy life. You can use it whenever you like. As for motivation, I'm sure that will come as soon as you start losing weight without the inconvenience of going to a gym. You don't have to wear sporty clothing, you could do it in your pyjamas if you wanted, you can walk straight into the shower afterwards. You could even do it in front of your favourite TV programme. For independance and convenience I would recommend the treadmill.
