Bitter...Me?

While the group was on our way to the office, a group mate mentioned that our boss (from our mother station) will be retiring in a year time. One from the group also mentioned that because of that, he became nicer this time. I reacted that we can not just correct everything that we have done wrong in the previous years by merely being nice in one year. So she asked me why I sounded bitter of our boss. She said she likes our boss because she was given a favor by signing her loan application form even if the entries were erroneous. After hearing her statement, I just smiled at her and told her that I am not bitter because our boss has not done anything wrong to me personally. I did not say anything anymore.
She don't know the whole thing because she did not stay long in the office, she was assigned in another place. Besides if she was given a favor even though she know that she had altered some entries on the documents, then I don't think that would be enough for her to tell that our boss is a good leader.
She did not even know that one of our office mates was almost laid off from the job because of some thing that our boss has done.
Now I don't know if our boss was really serious with this abrupt change in his behavior or just trying to be nice in order to get the sympathy of the people around him.
Well, what can you say my dear friends? Have you encountered such kind of boss?

I don't think that you are being bitter, because if somebody has done something wrong to you then you have every right to hold that against them for as long as you have to work together. However, the only problem that I would think you might have would be that it takes a lot of energy to hold a grudge against somebody, and you might be finding that you don't really want to fight with them anymore. With your boss leaving in a year it might be easier for everyone if you just let it go and tried to get on with them for the last little bit of time.

Hi Gem! You are right at some point. Maybe I would just have to leave it there. Anyway, if he is trying to be nice to us, then let him be. Whatever he may have in mind or whatever motive he may have, it's all up to him. thank you fro that wonderful response.

That sounds like when you know you're about to die, you change your ways and become good.
Maybe he was like that. Or maybe he does not want to be remembered because of his past deeds. Some people only remember the recent things people have done. But, in any case, just hope that he would really be good this time even for the last year. Speaking of my boss, I have ranted a lot about him in here. I even one time called him Satan's twin brother. And when we chat with my friend, I codenamed him EB as in evil boss. So I would understand how you feel being doubtful of his abrupt change in behaviour.

"Bitter" is such a strong word to be used on you, given the situation. Well, some people just can't help jumping to the defense of those they think they owe something from. Maybe it is trying to pay them back, or even to make sure that their next favor will be granted once more. Whatever the reason is, you were right in just dropping the matter altogether. YOu're right, she doesn't know anything either for her to immediately call you as bitter. (If it has been my younger self, I would have replied, "oh, suddenly you're a boot licker?" LOL!)
