My shoulder in the back has been aching alot today and stayed off the PC for a little while. Feelings somewhat better now and just went outside for a few minutes and I think I found three more rose seedlings. At least I hope they are, they're not in the best of shape right now. Don't know how they slipped by me before this if they are. I potted them up very quick though for now. Had so many seeds in the ground this year, I do hope they make it like the other bigger one did. :-) Do they look like rose seedlings to you or apple trees? It's hard to tell I know. I did plant apple seeds as well.

It looks like roses to me. One very difficult thing to do is raise roses from seeds! Just make sure that they are protected during the winter, if you have room bring them inside. Keep them warm but they will go dormant and will just look like a stick. Then come spring you will be surprised at how fast they grow. Also make sure you feed them and also I put a light covering of coffee grounds around them. It keeps the cut worms away from the tender stalks, helps hold the moisture in, keeps wild animals away from them (deer and squirrels LOVE roses and especially young stalks!!!). Like you say they're not in the best of shape, but a dose of food will help them a LOT! Just don't use too much or anything too strong.

One HUGE thing about composting is that you don't put proteins in it. Mac and Cheese, cheese, rice, and bread all contain proteins in them. The canned veggies are worse for the compost pile! Like you said there is salt, preservatives, and more in each can. Plus the rodents are good for the compost pile or humans! Stating with the Hunta Virus. What I would do is put out a "brother dish" near the compost heap and tell him that it is specially for him because you need to put the cheeses, breads and rices in at a certain time in a certain area. Then what I would do is find a spot that he won't see the stuff and dump it there. I would sneak out ahead of your brother and prune the rose bush in the back yard. It's a bit sneaky but at least it won't be hacked to shreads. It doesn't sound like he is much of a gardener! The one thing I really miss is being able to get the coffee grounds from our local Starbucks. For some reason they have stopped bagging the grounds for people to take for their gardens...I would pig out on the bags of grounds, taking all that they had out. Sometimes I scored as many as ten bags at one Starbucks! Now if I am very lucky I might get some from the Starbucks that is inside one of our grocery stores. But that is only if they are closing when I get there.

Thanks for the tips Loverbear. I do have the coffee grinds, plus eggshells and some cut up banana peels with the other rose from seed that grew perfectly and put that all on them when there's enough to give them. That one is in the ground again already. These three however I'm going to have to pamper abit, maybe bring inside like you said. But we don't have to worry about deer, thank goodness. The squirrels here do dig up alot of stuff at times, I was using some Miracle Gro on the other rose bush and so maybe it will help these but it's too late in the season for that right now. Like you said, in the spring they will get more leaves on them again. These leaves look about ready to all fall off soon.

Thanks for the info on the bananas, I know the whole banana is good for the rose plants, not just the peel, you are right. I like how you do the compost too. I want to just do that and leave out the other junk that my brother puts in it like macaroni and cheese and even bread, rice, and canned vegetables. They have salt and other things in them that draw rodents and just don't make it good in my opinion. I'm not sure where he got the ideas that it's OK to put cheese in there, for one thing. Ack. Thanks for the reminder as to when to prune them. I will have to prune my rose bush down tomorrow or so. My brother chops the one in the back to shreads in the Spring. He did that again this year and it never grew back that well. I swear he is all backwards with everything.

I guess according to the photo, those are rose seeds that start to grow up. I just remember you had a discussion about keeping seeds at the porch and someone decided to clean the porch and moved the seeds away, then you had an argument about where are the seeds. I hope the seeds will grow and turn into beautiful roses or even an apple tree that will give you apples for your love. Take care of the seeds and love them.

No that was a discussion about zinnia seeds instead. I have those saved for next year, I luckily got more so I don't have to worry about it. I do love my flowers. Thanks for the response. :-) This is the first time I tried to grow roses from seeds.

I think an apple tree will be better (even if less beautiful) because of the shadow it can give and the fruits that you can eat. I hope you will get roses from someone who loves you and you love him. Sorry for the confusion.

My dad said the same thing, the color of them might be somewhat different. They look sick cause I didn't know they were there, under some other plants in the same area as where I found and planted the other seed that grew. That must be a generally good area for a rose to grow, so I might replant one of them right there next year.
