I am aware of not a few protests against the newly signed Cybercrime prevention act. I already downloaded a copy so that I can study it since I am already affected with this law.
However, I just like to share a thought regarding the libel part of the law. Why do people worry about it if they do not have any intention to tell something libelous?
It is simple. If you speak to damage someone else's reputation then, you are guilty and should learn to rephrase statements to make it as open as an opinion. if you say something worth divulging, just be sure to support it with solid evidences. We have to just relax the way like we been even before that law. and people should stop hacking vital government websites as a protest.

Hello Danzylop, I haven't read the Law yet, can you give me a link for copy of it to download? We can easily feel oppressed if we didn't read the Law. But you know sometimes, we Filipino netizens can be scandalous too and make some thing fake real before people figures out it's fake in the end. this law on my opinion for now can be beneficial to the people who didn't want to be abuse in cyberspace.

This could definitely benefit the society and the economy. Business now feel more confident to engage business online. They are the beneficiary who gets the most out of the law.

Well I think there is a provision stating that the penalty is 12 years as compared to the libel in print which only has 4 years only. I think that is the main reason why there is so much noise on this one.
But I agree with you that if you have not done anything illegal and you have not hacked/scammed/bullied over the net this law is will never bother you at all. It is good as harmless to those who would do their business honestly over the net. That is why we needed this to protect the innocent online users of the net.

I don't have personal knowledge about the law but it seems that more outrage are pouring against it's passage. Now a New York based watchdog - Human Right Watch is appealing the Philippine government to repeal or replace the Cybercrime Prevention Act, saying it violates the Constitution as well as international conventions.
Personally, I am in favor of decriminalizing libel.
