What place do you think is the most dangerous one?? If you ask me, it might be the bed.. I woke up and decided to get up and didn't notice the mattress had slided a bit outside the bed. So when I thought I was going up, instead I fell down on the floor and hit my head. It hurt of course, but again I learned a lesson. Never trust a slippery mattress.. I hit my eyebrow and it is very swollen and the eye is dark lilac.. When I went out and met my friends on a meeting, I had sunglasses on..looks strange on a cloudy day, but a black eye looks even stranger and I don't need to explain to everyone that "no, I have not been fighting", Have you fallen out of bed lately?

Last spring I got a purple diamond under my eye just like a circus clown when a golf ball I hit went into a tree and slammed back into my head. That mark lasted for months, but the bathroom is a little more dangerous than the golf course. I don't remember ever falling out of bed, but sometimes if I get up in the night I fall asleep before getting safely back into bed. The last time that happened I fell against a sharp countertop. Yes, I played golf the next day, but OUCH with every swing. The black eye did not effect my game, but a sore ribcage really messed up my score, rflol. Fortunately, everything is OK now.

Yup, even golf balls can be dangerous.. But your bathroom visits sound kind of scaring. Our homes can be dangerous places sometimes.. Ever thought of buying a chamber pot.. Take care my friend - happpy you are OK..

Hah! I do not think one of those would be good to fall asleep with either! Well, the problem with the countertop was that I was staying over at a friends house. At home this sort of thing never happens.

They say that most accidents happen at home. And I gather from your experience even the bed is dangerous. Sorry if I'm smiling while typing this. I feel bad but now I'm laughing. I hope you black and lilac eye gets better quickly. I think it's been a long time since I last fell out of bed. I put my bed against a wall, behind and at my left which makes it hard to fall. Though I have hit the wall and the door when getting up during the night to use the washroom as i like a dark bedroom. Have a great day!

Well, I am laughing at myself too, no problem - it looks worse than it is.. Dear friend, please be careful and light a lamp when you get up at night. Wish you too a great day - keep smiling..

As long as you can laugh then you are healing, so keep laughing. I find that if I open a light then I wake up and have a hard time falling back to sleep. And I have to use the washroom a few times during the night. Anyway, I have not yet injured myself seriously, so I'll have to keep the light out. We all have obstacles to deal with at this present season. Take care!

Yeah, I understand you, as I have the same problem to fall back to sleep if I get up at night. It sometimes helps to keep only one eye open while out of bed and then shut it again when back.. Hmm...would padded walls and doors be a solution..?

Nope I never fall out of bed, I have a hard time getting out of it, the most dangerous place for me now is the tub, it is very slippery. Good thing I have a bar in the bathtub so I can hold on to it. I am happy you didn't hurt yourself.

Hi, winterose The bathroom and tub can be very slippery - there are some things you can put into the tub to avoid falling. I once bought some beautiful flower formed rubber or plastic mats and it worked well. Nowadays I have no tub, just a shower, but have to be careful there too.. It is good that we have some things that prevent from falling. My eye feels OK even if it looks awful. Today I was out with my sunglasses on and people find it pretty normal, they just might think my eyes are sensitive or something - hehe - ..

I had some but since I moved I cannot find them. I will eventually go out and by some more, but there are just so many things I need for the new place and I cannot buy them all at once.

I haven't fallen out of bed in a long time, But I did get a black eye from Hubby when he had a bad dream and was trying to get free from the bad guys, he flung out his arm and got me right in the eye. Sorry, we were both so sorry, now we still share the bed, but further apart.

I can imagine you both were sorry, better sleep apart a bit or build a wall of pillows between you two. I wish you both happy dreams in the future..

oh, no i am sorry to know about your accident. I haven't got it yet, when i wake up, i lie on bed for 5-10 minutes more and then slowly get down my bed. You should take care in the next time when you get down your bed. Better you should spend 5-10 mins more on bed to make your body totally woke up.

Yup, you are absolutely right - I will be careful in the future. I normally do take some time to wake up and do some stretching in bed and I did that this morning and managed to get up without problems. I also checked that the mattress was lying on the bed and not outside..

I believe the generally accepted place is the kitchen. I've had stitches in my foot after dropping a knife on it, I've burned myself several times. I cut my fingers frequently when chopping vegetables, not to mention the bread knife. There are dangerous appliances in the kitchen which can be lethal if they are treated carelessly. The toaster comes to mind, do you poke a knife in to remove a piece of stuck toast? Ever opened the oven and nearly lost your eyelashes? How many steam burns have to acquired from lifting lids off hot food? I've only ever fallen out of bed once, and that was the day we moved house and I was sleeping on a makedo bed of two mattresses piled on top of one another. I hope your eye is getting back to normal now and the advice to get out of bed slowly I would thoroughly endorse.

Yes, the kitchen might be more dangerous than bed, and the bathroom can be very slippery sometimes.. We may be more careful in the kitchen as there are so many things that can hurt us. One should always think in advance and prevent and never be in too much hurry anywhere.

Actually I did fall out of bed earlier this year! The weather was warming up so I put on a set of combed cotton sheets and I wore slippery pajamas. I sleep on the edge of the bed, but I got a little too close to the edge and slipped right off! I felt so silly. I didn't get hurt though.

I'm happy you din't hurt yourself! I think we learn as long as we live.. I am happy I didn't hurt my eye - at least it is still working, so I don't mind wearing sunglasses, as my eye looks kind of scary this time - let's see how long it lasts..

Dear Hatley, you are living a dangerous life, especially in bed Better be careful. I have heard that Magnesium helps for cramps. I take calcium and magnesium every night before sleep and hardly ever have cramps. Take care and enjoy the sun, it gives vitamin D3 and strengthens the bones and makes us happier..

it would be hard for me and my other half to fall out of bed. the bed was fixed and the cushion was very fitted to the bed, not the type that would slip. it must be painful, to the brow, and to your pride! ha ha

It's a bit painful for the brow, but my pride is almost non existent, so I am laughing at myself.. I will have to arrage the bed in another way or at least the mattress..

The last time that I fell out of bed was when I was a kid. I don't really move around when I'm asleep. Or that's what I think. Well, you should have put ice pack on your injury to prevent it from swelling and turning blue. I think you should change your mattress pronto and also buy a bigger bed. That will minimize the chances of you falling off of bed. Well, if you move around a lot while you are sleeping, it will be hard to prevent you falling off but having a bigger or wider bed can minimize those chances.

Well, I usually don't move much and haven't fallen out of bed since I was a kid, and that was ony once, I think. If this happened to me due to old age, I will have to do something about the bed..have to think of some solution. A positive thing is that if we have a problem, we start thinking and may invent something we never thought of before..

Hello buenavida greetings. For sure my wife will agree with you. Bed are sometimes becoming dangerous. I can still remember when my daughter was yet a little baby, she had fallen from our bed 4 times. Thank God, everything was alright for her. But believe me, after those incidents, though our bed now is a king size, my wife make sure that I will not be the one to fall from bed. How does she do that? She arrange our bed not on the lengthwise position but on a crosswise one.

Hi, Tony - you have a smart wife.. happy your daughter wasn't hurt. Kids are so relaxed, so they don't get hurt as easily as we do..

When I have been punched in the head before, but it was not from fighting with anyone. It hurt something awful. It wasn't long before a bump appeared, so the next day I couldn't go to school. Good thing it happened on a Thursday night because the bump was still there on Saturday.

Sometimes it helps to press with the hand on the place that hurts - maybe it can stop the inner bleeding a bit, but I got a bump this time anyway. I also tried with cold water..maybe helped a bit. I guess you are OK now, as you are here telling about it..
