Alan Pardew has been rewarded for Newcastle's great showing last year with an 8 year contract. It is really amazing looking at the fact that these days clubs tend to give managers just a 3 year contract and tend to keep it short. But, apparently the Newcastle management felt that Pardew is the right man for the job and in view of the stability of the club, they decided to reward him with a long term contract.
I actually like this as this gives Pardew a long leash where he can plan for the club and work on developing the team as well as building the assembly line of players from the Academy.
What do you think of such long term appointments?
Cheers!

i don`t agree with the long term and short term..
i believe the 4-5 year contract is suitable for the manager or club..
the short term contract of course impossible..building a good structure a club isn`t easy and instant..and not every manager can be succes in their first or second year..
but too long contract like 8 years contract becomes a boring contract..The manager will be bored,,the player will be bored too and i believe the management will be bored too
but i appreciate the step of Newcastle..Alan pardew is good manager..and it`s the right tings for Newcastle for securing his service...

Sir Alex and Wenger must be very bored everyday going to their office. A bored manager is okay as he is the one who dictate things. A bored player? He will be sold the next minute if the player acted boringly. Unfair, very unfair!

I am always a fan of a long term view. These days clubs are chasing success in too short a time frame and are throwing money to achieve it. While in the short term it works well, but in the long term it is very detrimental for the local talent development. So I think a long term contract gives the manager a more time to work on overall development of the club and not just short term success on the pitch.
Cheers!

@jkct and ram : they are given the flexible contract..don`t you remember the case of pep guardiola contract?? Barcelona management gives him a forever contract but he think it`s not good for the barcelona and for him of course..he needs a challenge too even he really loves Barcelona..

Long term contract is always good for the stability of the team. However, in current context, contract does not means anything. The club could just terminate when the results goes against the club. Having said that, I think Pardew had done a great job at Newcastle. He managed to bring on board the likes of Ba, Cisse, Cabaye and Tiote which is becoming the core of the team. To think the fans rejected him when he was first appointed as manager.

The 8 year contract is just for the financial security of Alan Pardew. It does not provide any true stability as far as the continuous employment of Alan Pardew as the manager is concerned. He could just be sacked anytime if the Newcastle board feels that it is the right thing to do. It is just a matter of paying compensation. Just ask Roman Abramovich.
It is also not a license for Alan Pardew to adopt a long term view of his day to day running of the club, such as trying out new ideas, new players or new styles without having to fear for any negative results that may put off the fans and more importantly, the board to turn against him in case of unsuccessful experiments. He still has to get results sooner rather than later even if he has had 8 years to spare.
But it is a recognition of what he has achieved for Newcastle. Yes, the longer contract will enable him to plan deeper in development of talents and the overall club fundamentals in hardware and software. He deserves the 8 year contract.

Yes, I think the certificate of confidence is what will do a world of good for Pardew. But I guess it does give Alan Pardew a bit of a free hand to try new things as if the club wants to terminate his contract in the next three years they will have to part with a huge break up money!!
Cheers!
