FAKE PERSONALITY IS HARD TO MAINTAIN *whistle*

Hi mylotters, In cyber world you can rarely meet people who is good to be true some of them are not genuine there are lot of pretenders, But how far they can maintain their identity? I mean if they will say fake personalities they must be consistent and never forget their statement. Or else they will be caught by those people who can’t forget the details they told about themselves. So beware and Be Aware maybe they are just fooling around pretending to be someone else or trying to mislead information about their true identity. happy mylotting not a pretender

This is an interesting and thought provoking post, I must say dear Bhabycatch! In this virtual cyber world we come across various types of people on day today basis! If you are member of any social site then chances of meeting such people or frequency with which you meet such people get increased. If we carefully follow few people we can find out if these people are genuine or faking their identities. It is very hard to fake one's identity for a long. To have a fake identity one has to take the support of lies and to lie on daily basis one need to have very good memory. If the member is active on many sites simultaneously then the situation becomes worst for him/her. I am participating on MP5, Wikinuts and Expert Column apart from Mylot. There I know few people who simply write to create quantity of posts. They simply write up the blogs to fulfill the norms laid out by the site. They are interested in getting a blog of a particular size and publish it on the site. They are hardly bothered about the content of the blog. Many a times I feel they even don't know if they have written on this topic earlier or not! I find such blogs from these people quite interesting as many a times they contradict themselves in their blogs. In one blog they may encourage us to go in for on line shopping explaining about the advantages about the online shopping and they add their pleasant experience about the online shopping. After few months you see that same author is coming up with another blog where he/she is seen describing in details why on line shopping is not good. Here the author even doesn't have hesitation in leaving a caution for us not to do any online shopping. Similarly I have seen the same author explaining us how we need to be careful while on shopping and asked us to spend wisely and if needed we should bargain for the goods as shopkeepers have good margin of profit. The same author is seen posted another blog after few months saying that we should not bargain on the products as the shop keepers have fixed the price after considering al the factors. So, in my opinions such people are fake natured and have no opinion of their own and they try to pretend every time. Hiding the personal details or impersonating other person is also one of the common things that is observed on such sites. But such people are get caught very easily by the experienced members and they either quit the site or rejoin with another new name. I really don't understand the psychology behind having the fake personality on the social sites when we hardly have any chance of meeting wit each other! Even if there are any chances why should one have a fake personality at the first place? I too feel very bad to meet such characters on the site! Thanks dear Bhabycatch for the nice topic of discussion I liked participating in it!

Hmmmm....interesting.It is true that in the cyber world you never really know who you're talking to, but that's the risk everyone takes when they talk to a fellow human online. There are some people who are able to keep up with their fake appearances to the end, though I imagine that it must be an extreme amount of work (unless you have photographic memory or something, which isn't that rare considering a lot of people in my family have it). What's really their motive for keeping up fake personalities though? Is it to get you to trust them to get your money? Do they get a thrill out of pretending to be someone their not? Are they some creepy pedophile who wants to lure you in? How people find it fascinating to put one some kind of facade and actually enjoy it confuses me.

There are people who do this but I personally don't see how they have the energy to keep up with all of their lies... I have too many other things to do with my time than to lie all the time. You can be sure, I am true to what I say here. If you met me in person you would know quickly that I am the same way as I am on MyLot.

Hi ! It is difficult to pretend. One can not be consistent when one is pretending. As far as mylot is concerned, I check discussions/posts and profile of a mylotter to know his/her genuineness. I have not come across any person who was fake on this site.

I know that a lot of people pretend to be someone they're not on the internet, and I will admit that I have told slight white lies myself on the odd occasion. Not enough to get me into any kind of trouble, more like exaggerating facts that are true. I think people should remember that others deserve to know the truth, and they should try to tell the truth if they can. The internet gives us the chance to type things without anyone seeing our face, so they don't know whether they're lying or not and have no way to tell other than to look at the things that are being typed.

hi bhaby Quite true. Internet is a place where many remain anonymous and cannot be trusted. But then, when we are at sites like MyLot, chances of pretending dont work out good for anyone. I mean, if you stay here for long, definitely chances are that you would be caught as the kind of discussions that we have here reveal a lot about our original life style and thought processes. I hope some, if not many, dont take me as a prankster or even a faker

The casper in the avatar was inspired from your discussion di. I would prefer to be honest and the way I am - I dont believe in telling lies... there is surely going to be more stress on my small brain if I start telling lies... hiding and calculating so many things for a lie and many know I hardly can spell mathematics (thanks to the spell checker on the browser)

I don't fake my identity online. I have fake accounts, but my true accounts, I am true to my self. But, safety is a priority for me, so in some sites (like here ) I prefer remaining anonymous. All my posts are genuine, especially my rants, and so I have to remain anonymous because I've said so many things about my job here and my boss that would get me in trouble if they find out I've been posting these things online.

I think it can be dangerous to give all your personal info by the internet. I also wonder if it's necessary people know your full name or see your pic everywhere. What counts is your responses, interest etc are true and you are honest if it comes to that. Personally I think internet is the best place to be honest or to practise to be honest. Nobody can hurt you and if they don't like to hear your opinion or be friends with you who cares. Plenty of people left over. Why so many people lie and cheat? I guess it's not different from real life. Some people like to show off, perhaps because they are used to behave like that? Perhaps they are afraid nobody might like them or find them interesting enough to chat with? Perhaps they have more courage (like a drunk in real life or when they are with a group?). Others see the internet as a great way to catch many people to scam. so yes be aware if it comes to that. But these people you will meet in real life too. The skimmers, the so called beggars etc.

True. It's not that easy to meet real people over the net. But for now I am confident people I have on my cyber communities are worth keeping. I am true to them, if they are fake, not using real photo, not using real name? what else?.. Some cyber people don't really use their true photos.. shy or whatever reason is something I can't answer. But I always give these people chances of being my friend as long as we're having healthy conversations- I can get along well with them :D XD so my friendship is not limited to those who have photos..ayie.. cheers dear! :)

I my case, I create a personality that do not really exist. I think it is better than to pretend to be someone else. And I only do those stuffs for security purposes. In the other hand, I regret tolerating fake personality. Because sometimes, My fake personality become my real one.

This is an interesting post! I think it's interesting because it is true for some people in real life as well! For people who are always telling lies or even little white lies it is hard to keep up that personality that might not actually be true! I can't see why people would want to do something like that. Seems like it is harder to pretend to be something you are not than to just be true and be happy!

hi bhabycatch I am not a fake either but my son was fooled by a internet friend who claimed his family abused him and he was inhis twenties. my son sympathized with him and even went so far as to'find a mental health counselor for this abused young man.my son kept saying what a bright person he was for his young age. well for awhile he was not emaiing my son then my son knew of the ewail address of his Aunt,. He was shocked to learn that the man was his same age and had high blood pressure and had had a stroke and was in the hospital,., come et find out the man had a fixation on his bad youth.,the people he then called his family were his adoptive parents and their family. My son feltreally betrayed but it also explained why the man was so well read and educated too.It took awhile before my took any chances on a web friend

As you say on the cyber world a lot of fake exist and sometimes if you dont want get scam its best to not leak any thing about your identity in my opinion . If you are not trying to make friends you dont have to tell anyone about you , You cant trust everyone you meet online . I dont tell people my name nor age , I am almost anonymous in most site. I try to not link my social network to sites because those contain the most info on me and I still dont share certain things on those . I dont pretend I just dont share much , that how I am .

The problem comes with the advancement of technology.. Sadly.. I mean, I think only sociopaths can downright lie in front of you. When one is in front of someone they've just met, it's quite hard to be who you really are, like when around friends. Over the net, we can always come up with avatars that may present our 'ideal' selves, etc.. Can we blame those who pretend? I pity them, actually.. They can't do so in reality, ergo they present themselves in a manner they would want to be remembered as.. They hide behind the anonymity provided by the Internet.. Nevertheless, I am still optimistic that there still are many members out here who are true to themselves. :)
