Have you seen Hotel Transylvania yet? What did you think?

We went to see Hotel Transylvania over the weekend for "family movie night." The kids really enjoyed it; my husband and I thought it was ok. It certainly isn't scary at all, and has a nice father/daughter coming of age theme (a la Disney, where it's just overprotective dad, eager to grow up daughter and no mom in sight). It has funny moments, and is not scary at all, so it is a nice family film, although (in my opinion) it was s bit boring at times. We saw ParaNorman a few weeks ago, which is definitely a darker and scarier movie and held my interest more, although the kids liked Hotel Transylvania better.
All in all, I guess I would give Hotel Transylvania a C+ or B- for adults, and a B+ for kids. Not the best animated movie I've seen, but not the worst, either. What do you think?

Haven't seen the movie and actually prepare to do it.
I was thinking it's a kind like Nightmare before Christmas, but seeing your review, I think it's a different story after all, isn't it?
Anyway, thanks for reviewing it! Give me a few points of view at least

It is nothing like Nightmare Before Christmas (which i really liked). Frankenweenie and Paranorman are both more in that sort of genre than Hotel Transylvania, which is more of a straight-forward kids' movie. It has clever moments, but has no dark undercurrents like the other movies do.
Hope you enjoy it when you do see it!

I haven't seen Hotel Transylvania yet, I heard Hotel Transylvania lacks a good story and comic lines to make one laugh.
I taught of not spending money to watch it in 3d, I will be waiting for the DVD to be released so I can rent it ...

That's kind of what I thought, too, but the kids all seem to love it....at this point I would just wait for the dvd, or, better yet, wait for it to be free on a movie channel.

I actually used to like some animated movies, even before I had kids. But now I feel like I am on animated movie overload!!!! 
I have seen so many that I feel like it has to be really good for me to appreciate it.

hello,
i haven't got the chance to watch hotel transylvania till now but i am really excited to watch t. i watched the trailer few days back and i loved it. its a totally new concept and i think it will be very funny too. i liked the trailer a lot and i think sony had made a good animation movie this time. i hope kids love the movie and i am also very much eager to watch. its been a long time since i have seen a good animation movie. i really hope it turns out to be a good movie, even if not the best one. lets see what happens. i am going to watch it this weekend.

Let us know what you think of it--especially if you still think it is a new concept once you have seen it. . .to me the story line seems to have been used many times before, just in different settings. I hope it lived up to your expectations and you give it a big thumbs up!

i think its gonna be great fun.. and ofcourse i dont its scary..its just animated cartoon..
