Music piracy is not always bad for the artist..

Do you agree with my statement above ? I said like that because, sometime, a music artist can be known by her/his/their music, that is popular in the Internet.. With the development of our technology, a new music can be known by the news spreaded in many social media.. And they can download the songs for free at many website such as 4shared or mp3skull.. This is called piracy , and i know its a bad things for the artist because when we can download it for free, why must buy an expensive album ..? Especially on my city the CD or DVD seller is seldom to sell a new 'just released' album.. But if we want to see the positive side, this music piracy is like an advertisement for the artist.. When people can download the mp3, they love it, and the artist slow or fast can become popular, and can get many jobs to the live concert.. Is that great ? How's your opinion ? Share me your thoughts .. Have a nice day :)

Piracy never gives bad effects to the artists. Because artist gets paid for their work not for the sale of the Music CD. Many people buys pirated CD, so more people comes to know about the artist. Piracy effects the producer of Music album. It is big loss for them.

are you an artist too ? i think the 3honor respond is right.. she/he said that music artist get some small fraction if we buy their original album.. and i believe it because he/she married with a musician so that must be a true fact.. but now you said that the artist get paid for their work not for the sale of the music CD.. i'm so confuse now.. lol can you explain more about this ?

Let me explain.. There are 2 types of contract. One is production house says that they will pay a artist for just singing song. In that cases piracy never effects (badly) to the artist. And other contract is artist will get a certain percentage of the sale of the music album. In this case piracy effects badly to the artist. Now it depends on artist for which contract he will work.

Some artists, specially indie artist. Yes, they like it. But, for those who already have a labels on them. The labels didn't like it, cause it could reduce their earning. While they are paid by the labels according to the CD, DVD, Cassetes, iRing seller that have been made.

I-RING isn't iOS, its also known as RBT (Ring Back Tones) or "Nada Sambung Pribadi (NSP)" in Indonesia. I-RING is brand names of RBT from Indosat. Other operators calls it as RBT or NSP.

it is wrong, there is no positive side piracy means stealing. If the artist wants to give away his or her music he will that should be his/her choice and nobody else's.

you don't seem to understand, there is no positive side, it is a crime, and the other doesn't get paid. The author wants to get paid, the people who pirate these things never buy them no matter how popular the singer is. The artists are very against pirating they were the ones who were lobbying for stricter rules. You cannot say it is positive for them, it is not happening to you it is happening to them and they don't like it.

the positive side is if the songs is great the artist may increase their popularity because many people love to listen to the song..

I agree with you. Musicians earn little from recording. The earn if they become popular and are invited to give concerts. Most of the money goes for the people how manage the artists.

yeah... and if we pirated their CD then the people who manage the artist will suffer the loss, right ?

I agree with this one. I was thinking the same thing you know. I think it's not bad for them at all. It's the same thing with books. I download e-books form Internet and then if I really like the books, I would end up buying them all because they are so awesome I want them to read all day and night. And I want the to be displayed in our home. Hahaha! So it's not really bad for them. There's always positive in all bad things. :)
