I am from India. India is a democratic country. Here every one has right to express themselves. There is freedom of speech. In the event if anything going wrong against the people's welfare or interest, the citizens have right to protest against it. In our country, like in any other democratic country we have two parties, one is governing party or ruling party and another is opposition party.
The members of the ruling party are elected by the people and they are representatives of the people who form the party after attaining the majority. The functioning of the ruling party is to rule the country in such a manner that it should give peace, prosperity and progress to the nation in every [possible way by taking appropriate decisions needed from time to time. Its duty is o introduce new bills and laws in the welfare of the country.
Similarly the opposition party is one which sits against the ruling party. Here also the members are elected by the people but since they don't have majority in the parliament hey form opposition party. Their function is to look after the proper functioning of the ruling party. They may check and recheck the functioning of the ruling party and object the way the party is ruling the country, if they find that it is going against the constitution. That means they are the critics and the have right to oppose the Government if they feel that something is going wrong.
This is a healthy system and it definitely keeps check n the ruling party and the ruling party is careful in ruling the country by not using the powers for an undue advantage. The opposition party is always acts as a strict invigilator in an examination hall.
That is OK, but the headache starts when the opposition party instead of showing their opposition in the parliament comes out on the streets to demonstrate their anger against the Government in the form of 'Strike' which is commonly termed as 'Bharat Bandh!' which means 'closure of India'. During this period the leaders of opposition party and other parties which are not in the Government or not supporting the Government collect all anti social elements and they block the roads at various places in the country. They close down the markets, shops, Industries, They interrupt private and public transportation, and they practically stop the life in major parts of the country.
Things they won’t stop here, some illiterate people and hooligans under the influence of various vested interests involve themselves in causing the loss of national assets of the country. They burn out the City buses, they burn even the trains some time, they damage the private transport vehicles, and they damage public property and what not! They do all sorts of violent activities in the name of 'Bharat Bandh!’
To control these people police may get into action and some times because of this some people are injured and few of them they are loosing their lives also. This types of protests are understood if they are done for some solid reasons/
Unfortunately today for every small reason like hike in Petrol prices or cooking gas or for increasing inflation or against the corruption the opposition is using 'Bharat Bandh' as it's tool. The nation incurs the losses to the tune of some thousands of crores per day because of these Bandhs.
Unfortunately the frequency of these 'Bandhs' are getting increased day by day and then common man has lost interest in such 'Bandhs' now. The day to day routine is spoiled, kids can't go to schools, the patients can't attend the doctors, and the youth can't attend their job interviews...the list will go unending, because of such meaningless 'Bandhs'.
Now it is high time that people of India should get united and oppose such 'Bharat Bandhs' to protest against the Government, which is no way beneficial to the country and to the common man in particular. I think social sites like Face Book and twitter should be used for this purpose!
