Your company needs referrals... would you refer your friends?

Our company have high attrition rate, i would think as well that this is due to a lot of factors, mostly due to the benefits or the lack of it and so others do find better jobs. In our department a lot of us are not getting the right benefits of a regular employee, and though some people stay... others don't last more than a year. Our team specifically has had problems and now we need 4 more positions filled, but well i know / we know that there are problems with some of the seniors who are acting more like a pain and are not good mentors so no one stays long... If you know there is such a problem, you are happy because you are not directly affected but a friend you referred might experience the issues others have experienced... would you still want to refer them to your company and be with you on the same team? Or would you just tell them your company is quite different and there are difficult people around... hehe

Hey thanks for sharing this discussion. Well in such a situation, i would like u to clearly state all the requirements, benefits, losses, etc of your company to the friends u want to refer to. It would be simply injustice to hide the details to them and ask them to join the company for your benefit. May be some of them might be willing to work under any circumstances even after hearing about your company. So it would be better to state everything about your company while referring your friends. What say?

Well I might if I see a friend in desperate need of a job. But of course I would have to tell her and warn about the current situation of the office so that if in case she would be accepted then she would be ready to face the problems you are facing right now. For as long as you see your friend as fitted to join you then why not and let her weigh things out so at least you help someone in need of a job.

If I refer my friends to work in our school, I am sure that I will let him or her know about the good and bad sides of the school in case that he or she can make a judgement by himself or herself. I work in the school only, therefore I use school to replace company. Thanks for the discussion, chiyosan.

I'm actually in a similar predicament now. Our company needs to hire people for one of our departments. The owner actually had talked to us middle management to personally refer people who have already some background on the type of work we do. But like your company, ours also has problems with employee wages and benefits. Plus the fact that the owner, a foreigner, sometimes makes racist remarks to the rank and file people. Although I haven't personally heard her make them, news of it is spreading. I had a friend who heard about the vacant positions and asked me about it. What I did was to tell her everything about the company, including all the negative things, and cautioned her. But I did not try to dissuade her. It's really for her to decide. Besides, I feel that dissuading her seems a bit unprofessional on my part.

I'm hesitant to refer friends to my current employer because frankly it's a lousy job. On the other hand if there was a friend of mine who could do the work and was looking for work I would refer them. Granted I would give them a full background on what they'll be dealing with if they choose to work there. My friends would get an honest referral. Wouldn't sugar coat anything.

I think if I were in your shoes, I'd rather not to encourage my friends to apply with my company with that kind of environment for I just do not want to be blame by my friend in the future when she or he already experience what had happen to me in that department.I will tell him/her the truth about my company and its up to her/him if she will pursue to apply or not.
