Hi! I recently posted about how I care for my books. Now I'm going to tell you about some of my weird reading habits.. Let me start with the weirdest. Whenever I read new hardbound books, I always use a long towel to hold it (this is before I get to cover them because I get too excited to read, haha!). I even finish the books with not a single finger print on the cover. .

hi ajlasent. yeah, i would say that those are peculiar habits. i don't buy books now as often as i did before. i either download the either thing or stay at a bookstore and spend time trying to read the complete thing without having to buy it. yes... yes... i'm that sc*mbag who won't fork my hard-earned money to purchase the book that i want. perhaps that the weirdest reading habit that i have, staying at bookstores for countless hours just so i can finish reading a book for free. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

i don't get caught. i'm good at being undetected. the pros of being under the radar. plus, the two bookstores that i frequent most, the managers are friends so its all good in the hood.

Wow! But don't you get caught? Reading at bookstores isn't exactly allowed right? Although... I have seen people who seem to be doing exactly that. x_x It's a great thing books are now available for downloading online. ;) I do that sometimes too!

Niiiiice... :D Being friends with the manager does make things a little easier, I bet. ;) Around how long do you stay in the bookstores though?

YES! I really hate the fact that focusing while reading for me is hard for some reason, like my mind goes everywhere, when I'm trying to read, after a while, I think about almost anything, it really is wierd

I know a person who experiences the same thing.. she ends up reading the same paragraph several times because the thinks of something else while in the middle of it. @_@

hi ajlasent oh my you will yell at me then as my weird habit is to turn down the top of the page where I left off reading. well darn they are my books and i bought them and paid for them and i reread them a lot. I ha ve never smelled a book and I am afraid my roomie would think I was going bananas if I started now,.I reread my favorites often and I am a great Stephen King fan so those are my weird habits. I do not turn down the pages of a library book though.

ooooh.. you mean the edges? i did that to textbooks, but not to the ones i have as my collection... ^_^ i've seen many people do that, so i guess it's okay if it works for them. haha! re the smelling part, yes, it can seem very weird. x_x

Hi ajlasent! We're the same in some habits. I like smelling book pages as well and I don't want to stretch the spine too much as I feel the books cry quietly when I do! I don't know when I started the habit of smelling books but I know that I feel so happy whenever I smell them! They seem so clean! One of my weird habits is that I look at the front cover from time to time. I don't know why I do that but I do that every after chapter I also have a weird habit in reading magazines, I always start at the back. Now, this may not be weird for Japanese.

Now I remember it's not just books that I love to smell. Paper in particular and crayons too!

Covers attract me too. When there is a book that I like to buy and there are two or more covers I could choose from, like cover from the movie or the original cover, I'd pick the original cover. I don't like books that have movie covers.

True! This is why I love going to bookstores or even school supply stores. :D I also love the smell of permanent markers for some unknown reason. x_x That's interesting, the way you look at the front cover from time to time. :DI have a thing for covers... I don't look at them from time to time, but I sometimes buy a book just because the cover captivated me. ^_^ makes me enjoy the book more. :D thanks for sharing your reading habits!

That is so funny because I do the same thing, except for covering the hard covers with a towel. I have never done that, but with the soft covers, I don't open them anymore than 90 degree angle either so they will lay flat when I put them down and it won't crease the spine. I also smell the pages of new books. It's like a new car smell, you just have to take a whiff! Lol =)

Haha! Exactly! I find the scent intoxicating! :D I do the towel thing because I get too excited to read and I leave the covering for later.. do you get to cover books immediately? I remove the jacket though when i use the towel technique, so it'll be in pristine condition..^_^
