I am teaching in a college and I find that a bad student aslo need success and respect from others. There is a really bad guy in my class. He doesnt pay attention to my lecture. And even worse, he keeps chatting with others. Everyday,I ask my students to do some discussion. One day I appointed him as the leader of one team. I told all my leader as usual, they were the leaders and they were in charge of their team and take responsibility for their team too. The bad student really enjoy his leadship and did many job for the preparation . I had to admit that he is. born as a leadman. His team got the highest scores. Although the student still couldn't concentrate on my lecture, he starts to do homework carefully and never chat loudly on my class again. I am so happy I can change him a little.

Some students have a hard time paying attention to lectures or reading.. When I was in college I was taught that there are two main types of students.. The first type can listen to lectures and stay focus on long reading assignments... Whereas the other group of students do better with their hands... Theory versus practical... Your student may be a hands on type of learner.. It may not have anything to do with disrespecting you or your classroom.. Just has a hard time staying on track if his hands are not busy.. I am a hands on type of learner. I tried to stay focused on what my instructor was saying.. but there were times that no matter what I did my focus was not completely there.. The lectures were interesting just hard to stay on task.. Hopefully your student will continue to make you proud;-)

I have to agree. That ho usually students learn. As a teacher, you should be able to adapt and make the subject interesting. You cannot control them but you could provide examples on how to be a good student. It's up to them if they want to change.

Yes that is true, a person has to choose to change.. No one can make a person truly change.. Teachers do have a rough job, they are usually overloaded with students; an over abundance of material to go through in a small portion of time.. From my experince the more creative the teacher is with their teaching menthods to more likely to reach most students...

It is you who motivated him. Maybe he found out that you gave him trust and not to waste the opportunity to prove himself.

:D I'm going to be a teacher too and like you, I hope I can be a way to improve my student's behavior. I think that specific student felt the respect you have for him and he saw your sincerity and concern for him. Sometimes it just takes a little encouragement to make them feel cherished and worth it.:) Good job!

There are many reasons why some student can't do good and concentrate on their study even they actually talented. Remember many scientist were backward in their school. Reasons may be... some are fallen in love, some are dreaming about getting quick success in their life, some are fantasying about something. The main reason is that they can't concentrate on your lecture because they can't stop other thinking of their mind.

Well, it's really good to hear! Especially, you are a college professor. At this point, I am very proud of you because you try different things for your student who does not excel on a particular thing. I think you inspire me, as future educator.

My friend, your strategy to make a bad person becomes good is a clever idea, which just reminds me of my former employee, who was a bully and always late when reporting to my store.I just approach him,to make him a time keeper, and told him that there are some employees who came late, that he must tell them to report on time and no more late.I have him check all store equipments and accessories,if it were all in place and order, and it must be complete everyday. He was now reporting very early each day after I make him the time keeper.I have manage to make him a model employee who was now making his works at the right place and the equipments are at the good condition and no more accessories were ever got lost.I salute your good decision which is just the same as mine.A bad person should be prioritized always to make it a good person.

I think that there are lots of reasons that people might not be able to behave properly in a lecture. One of the reasons might be because of the school that he want to previously, and if it was a school that didn't have a good level of discipline. You can't really blame him for that, but one of the things that you could do would be to talk to him about the way that he behaves and tell him that you would like him to start trying to behave in a different way from now on. He will probably respect you and will try to change his behaviour as far as it is possible for him to do so.

I guess he's a hyper student. I attended a seminar before that students learn in different ways or approaches. Some may not be listening directly, but when we ask them, they know the answers. Some roam around the classroom every now and then, etc. I guess we should know each of them very well. Happy mylotting.

Then he needs just a little motivation and responsibility to start behaving correctly. From reflection, I realize that responsible people are those who have been given responsibilities from their childhood. That is why I think girls are more responsible than boys do.
