This is one of those things that I think takes a while to get over feralwoman, and of Toby will always have a special place in your heart. Nothing, or no other dog, will ever replace him but you will get a new dog that will find its own niche in your life.
We recently had a bit of a scare thinking we would have to have our old dog put to sleep, but when we took her to the vet he said she was in excellent condition, health wise, for her age. She has been a bit not quite right, but he said that it is just her age and if we are still around when we reach the same age, then we should also expect to have a few health problems. LOL
So if was a miserable few days between when I decided she had to see the vet and when we could actually take her there, and of course I was imagining the worst. So, of course I know how you are feeling as I would be the same in your position.
Cheer up my friend as you know that Toby is not suffering and he is in a much better place now.

Hi there Ossie! Always pleased to get a response from you mate! Glad your dog was OK and that it was just an "old age" thing. We now have a new border collie pup - what a handful! He's 16 weeks old (we had him from 8 weeks) and he's now a massive 16Kg. Toby will never be forgotten - all the family loved him so much. Nice to hear from you! lol

I wish I could help you, but I have the same problem. I lost my border collie Korena due to a pitt bull over a year ago. I still cry all the time. She was like one of my children. I loved her so much. It destroyed me so bad that my marriage fell apart and I left. I have now returned, because I know it was deppression, but I am still trying to cope with her loss! Im crying just thinking about her. My 4 year old still cries about her all the time too. He just brings her up out of the blue. I guess only alot of time will heal you my son and I.

I'm so sorry to hear about your collie dog. It makes me feel very sad for you too! We've got a new collie pup now and it has eased the pain somewhat, but our original collie dog will never be forgotten - so he lives on! Thank you so much for your response, I hope that, given time you and your son will get over your incredibly sad loss.
