What's a ridiculous thing you believed as a child?

October 9, 2012 3:11pm CST
My mother once pulled something out of the fridge that was covered in ice and said it had frozen because it had 'touched the back of the fridge'. This lead me to the believe that the back of the fridge would flash freeze something in an instant, rather than over a period of time. Anyone else care to share?

When my father remarked that "Mr Coleman makes his money from the mustard that people leave on their plates", I thought he was going round the canteens and homes cleaning it off people's plates and re-using it. I was sent to a child psychiatrist, a near-retirement unmarried lady called Dr Potts. Well, a certain subject cropped up and she told me the facts of life in stark reality. I'm told that when I went home and asked my mother about it and she confirmed it, I laughed out loud and said that Dr Potts had said that; but how could she know when she wasn't married?

Oops, I should have checked your age before I accepted that you were a doctor! I suppose they don't teach you about such things until well into your clinical? Maybe you only really need to know about it just before you go on your elective, in case you inadvertently get one of those native girls into trouble?

Oh, by the way, in my comment above, "stark" is not a typo for "stork".

I'm sorry, I don't understand that expression and have not heard it before, could you please explain?

We used to have a nanny when we were little, and ah made us believe that if we didn't have our wounds cleaned, our food will one out f it haha. It's crazy but back then, I think that's the only way anybody can clean our wounds with stinging antiseptics.

Hey that was real fine incident that you just narrated. Anyway its nice too see the granny took great care of you people. these days we never find such people around. I think you must have always had your antiseptic whenever there was a wound.

I was thinking of something similar. We were told that trains will come out of our wounds to scare us off if we're too playful and will not stay put.

I was 6 yrs old when I learned the truth about Santa Claus. My parents had never lied to me before, and I had believed them with all my heart. After my school friends convinced me that there was no Santa my heart was broken, and the faith I'd had in my parents was never the same again.

When I was a child I used to believe that another person was in the mirror and I would try to put my hand around the back of the mirror to touch them . I believe that when you lose a tooth and if you dont say " rota rota take old teeth and give me new teeth" and then throw it on the house top , you would never get your new teeth . I believe in a lot more silly things I cant even think of now lol

There's one belief that children have that's not completely ridiculous. That is, a belief in Pelargogenesis. The fact is, many lives have begun as a result of the Stork's activities.

Here, rice is our main diet. Mom teach us kid to finish our rice, or else the rice will cry, and make our rice watery. We hate watery rice like porridge, so we will finish the rice each time we had a meal.

That was indeed a very interesting story that you just spoke off. I dont remember if I was told any such things. I never had issues with having any food. Ofcourse I hated porridge like anything. But things were fine with me as far as other foods were considered.

There was one thing that I believd in. infact nobody told me his, but i always believed it that way. Many a times i could see cloud in the form of various countries and the rest of the country was blue. I thought when we see from space, the blue color that we see is that of sky and the countries are infact cloud shaped. I also though that all others who believed otherwise are wrong.

Well this is not so much a belief but when I was younger my mum would say that everything we should not have or touch had pepper, chewing gums to plates, so we would never touch anything because it had pepper then one day we figured out it wasn't true, but for a while at least no plates or things were broken. The thing with freezing, a while back my fridge broke down and it would be on the minimum setting and either not keep cool or freeze everything, it is really annoying going to get an egg for breakfast only to have it frozen.

One thing I believed as a child was everyone that looked like they were nice and respectable must be a good person. I know now that not everyone who looks good is good but as a child I didn't really know much about people being two faced or doing evil things.
