I have a nice and cute dog and his smell is also nice. I let him sleep on my bed sometimes (he is half a Vizsla and Vizsla dogs like sleeping on the bed with their owners.) The problem is, he makes my bed and room full of his smell, my sister doesn't like it and opens my room's windows to let some fresh air in. I don't think it's smelly and I like my dog's smell. I don't make my dog a shower ever. I just brush him with my fingers, taking out the fur that fall, it makes less fur in the house and less of his smell. Do you like your dog's smell ? Do you have arguments about his bad smell with others ?

Our dog has a smell that is not very pleasant. The dog we used to have before smelled like linden flowers even without being bathed for months. The dog we have now has a smell of her own, but it isn't that strong. Nobody said we should open the windows to let some fresh air in. You can feel her smell only if you put your nose in her fur. How come you never bath your dog?

I believe the dog doesn't need to have a bath since the fur has a layer of fat that protects him from infections. If we put soap on the fur, the fat layer gets off, making the dog more vulnerable. I never read anything about it and I have never asked a vet about it. I might be wrong. I guess I was ignorant and I was just lazy. I only gave him a bath when he came back to the house with mud and grease...

I love my pet dog very much, but I just keep it from entering my room, when I am going to sleep.I keep my dog have that musky smell from the shampoo, yet it always have its natural dog smell I do not want to sniff again. My dog was a winner in a dog show for it has a beautiful silky hair, and it pose bringing a basket of flower and fruit.I keep it have its bath everyday so that it could smell clean and musky but I do not know why its smell still overshadow the cleanliness of its body.

I'm not sure what the vet would tell about cleaning the dog everyday, but, I would like to see some of your dog's pictures. I love dogs with silky hair or extra flexible skin to feel with the hands. Aww...I miss my dog so much. What kind is your dog ?

I also had a Samoy dog. It had a white long fur, silky , button eyes, I loved him. We sure gave him a bath once in a while. When he got dirty, there was no choice and we gave him a bath and he started to run circles in the house. That was so funny, he had his water explosion magic: He shook himself and many drops of water were thrown everywhere. He was so cute but a little spoiled. Do you think posting pictures of the dog can somehow influence his luck and maybe can cause a tragic accident ? There is a high chance that what happened to my last dog. I made him a Facebook account , I uploaded pictures and videos of him, he got some "Like"s here and there... Who knows, maybe people were jealous and thought some bad thoughts about it.

Some dogs are special for people with allergies. You can read about the Schnauzer dogs, they don't drop fur. Maybe you can have one dog that won't make you allergies.

Maybe i'll just devote my time to other things in lieu of pets for it's a pity if I won't be able to take care of them properly. Merry Christmas.

our dog tends to smell when it's raining. it's worse now because our new neighbor put hollow blocks and cement on the wall between their house and ours, unlike before when we could out also get air and sunlight from the west side of the house after lunch till sundown.

So, now you have less fresh air from one direction and the dogs smell starts to take over ? The rain indeed changes the air smell everywhere. You smell the water everywhere and sometimes, it gives some effect on other smells. Sometimes, the rain makes the air more fresh and clean. Don't forget it.

Hi! I have a golden retriever and she's soooo fluffy. I have to bathe her twice a week to keep her fur clean, shine and health. It keeps her smells good everytime, because a dog with a thick fur may becomes dull and having bad smell if you i'm not taking care of her really well. And also, clean dog with a clean and fresh body will be more cute and adorable.

That's right, but, don't forget to ask the vet about it. Would you like your dog to sleep in your bed ? I would sure like to try it. A Golden Reriever dog is very cute and fluffy. I like hugging dogs and let them lick my ears and face... :) Thanks for responding and bringing some good feelings.

dogs are the most used pets. I too had a dog named chocolate it is as sweet as in his name. but it should be taken care much otherwise it gets tickled. I love the sense smell of my dog if we don't why do we own. it helps me in all things waking me up in the morning. bringing some of my things. I have a separate house for it. it do goes to many places where it gets untidy then I get a bad smell from it. but when I bathe it plays with me. thanks for making me to share about my dog. love u chocolate.

Thanks for responding and I hope you will find a lot of fun in this website. What kind is your dog ? Does it drop a lot of fur around the house ? I must admit I even loved my Dogo Argentino dog and his smell was bad. Many people didn't like it, but, I let him sleep on my bed a couple of times. He sure left some smell and my father didn't like it. I was 15 years old. I love the natural smell of dogs. When the bad smell is from bacterias and infections, the smell is an alert for us. When the smell is natural and everything is normal, I can get used to the smell and it doesn't bothers me at all.

What kind is your dog ? Does it have a short or long fur ? Does it drop hair all over the house ? My dog's fur used to get stuck in my blankets and in my bed, my clothes... All dog. We had to sweep the floor twice a day.

We have a HUGE dog. He is a Rotti X Rhod Ridgeback which we have had since he was a teeny tiny puppy. Honestly, our dogs stinks! We wash him and wash him but he still smells. I think it is just him as I have changed his diet to something a lot more wholesome that can food, yet, he STILL smells! I envy those who own small dogs that are able to go inside. Those little dogs hardly smell at all when compared to my big boofer lol!

That's sad when the dog is adorable but the owners are bothered from the smell...:( Isn't there anything you can buy from the vet to reduce the smell so you can let the dog in the house to sit in front of the heater during the winter ? The weather is probably cold and the dog wants some company... :(

Well, I have a female labrador dog now for seven years. Maybe it will be that I'm used to, but it will seem impossible, but it does not smell anything, nor good, nor even bad. But I have to report a case of a person that I know who has a dog "poodle", maybe it will be because they do not wash it often. Well, the dog always has a bad smell! I have to say that instead of our dog regularly, at least once a month, we bring it to wash completely.

Would you allow your dog to sleep in your bed with you ? I guess not. he he he :) I thought to wrap my dog with a clean bed sheet before letting him come up to my bed, but he moved and the sheet would get off from him eventually. The fur also gets through the sheet, like nails. This is amazing how the fur can pass through the sheets and even the blankets and get stuck in my bed. It is the pressure and the angle that make the hair get stuck into the bed.

Thanks for posting this discussion. Well i can understand your feelings and how much u love your dog and still do not appreciate his smell. I think u should rather get a small dog home where it can sleep properly. Besides u should take time off to give it a proper water bath once in every two days and i am sure there will be no smell coming from it after that. What say?

How often do you give a bath to your dog ? I almost never made any bath for my dog, only if he went back to my home with dirt on his fur like mud and oil. Most of the time, he dropped fur, so, the dirt fell down with the fur and he grew a new fur all the time.

I think that animals just have a general smell about them, not that they smell bad, it's just noticeable to people who don't have pets. I had to get rid of my Australian Shepherd because my daughter is apparently allergic, but I used to give him baby powder baths every two weeks or so to keep him smelling fresh and from getting his dog smell on the furniture. I also used dry doggy shampoo that I got from PetSmart to spray on him in between and comb it through his fur. It was good for his skin and coat and it smelled good. I also used a lot of Febreeze on the couches and carpet to keep the house smelling fresh.

So you don't like your natural dog's smell. You used things to change his smell. It's all right, some people like their dog's smell and some don't. Dog's smell is sure a controversy, Mscontrovercy :)

I love how my dogs smell after a bath. Although my dachshund starts to excrete a foul smell just a few minutes after the bath.
