In films, but never in reality, I sometimes see dogs dressed with scarves around their necks, John Wayne style. Is this a custom in America I wonder, because I've never seen it in the UK. Dogs just have collars there. I don't understand why people do it, so if your dog has a scarf I would be interested to know why you like it and if he keeps it on. Any dog of mine would lhave it off in minutes.

Little scarves, those bandana-styled ones are popular, yes... a lot of dog groomers use them. They tie one around the dog's neck when they have completed the grooming so, when the owner comes to collect the dog, I guess it looks "cute" :) I also know that the rescue organization where I adopted my dog uses scarves on the dogs in the adoptee photos. Again, I guess it's just to make them look cute. Also, when they get a large litter of pups, they often use the scarves to keep their identities straight for the adoptions. My dog doesn't tolerate wearing anything other than his collar... even when it gets cold, I try to put a sweater on him when he goes out in the yard... he'll basically ignore it for a few short minutes but, if I don't remove it in the house, he mopes around looking entirely miserable until it's gone LOL

I had a spaniel who felt the cold and she had a little jumper for cold nights. She seemed to enjoy wearing it but the other dogs were nuisances and tried to get it off.

Hello 41. I not really seen too many dogs being dresses up in the general public where I go. I do know that when my daughter takes her dogs to the groomer they come home with scarves around their necks and nail polish in their toe nails. I do know that a lot of people treat their pets like they would their children. Also the small dogs are treated like toys. Paris Hilton as a case in point. She has a whole designer line of doggie clothes. http://www.glamourdog.com/paris-hilton-dog-clothes.html
she also so has a very nice doggie Mansion http://www.pawnation.com/2009/06/12/paris-hiltons-mini-dog-mansion/
I don't get it but then I had four kids to spend my money on as little as it was, The dogs were lucky to get their shots. I guess those people have to find something to spend all their money on.

Dogs should be allowed to be dogs not fashion accessories. Personally I like to see two dogs together, one dog alone becomes humanised by it owner. We can't help it, we are just thinking that they are our little offsprings. Two dogs share a common body language, they know it instinctively, whereas 'come' is comething they have to learn from us. Two of my dogs have never had 'masters', they do respond to 'come' now but to them it means 'food' and it they do not come it is not because they are naughty but because they do not understand the word properly. At least that is what I call it.

Alot of people spoil the heck out of their dogs! I have seen dogs dressed in outfits! All different types and styles! Here in the USA little dogs are dressed up the most. I think it is silly! People do it because they want to do it and can! With all the spoiled dogs around it is quite a huge business! SOme people are really crazy about it,too!

Then dogs become a fashion accessory, I think that is cruel. Small dogs seem to suffer the worst, especially if they are small enough to fit into a bag.

i have always seen such decorative dogs on TV and in movies, never seen any one who decorate so much, but its good if they really do so, as the dogs also may feel happy for the attention they get, and enjoy it.

I'm not so sure they do enjoy it, or maybe they prefer it to a collar?
