Jessica Ridgeway, 10 years old girl living in Colorado, on October 5th was on her way to her girlfriends house to pick her up to continue to school. She never made it to her girlfriends house. This week they found her dismembered body about 7 miles from her home. I can't believe how our kids are not safe to even go to school. This happens time and time again and it does not get any better. I truly understand the parents homeschooling their kids because in todays world no one is safe from the predators that lurk around every neighborhood. My daughter is homeschooling her 6 year old daughter due to fear of the sick people in this world. I feel so bad for the parents and I just hope and pray that they find the killer and he is brought to justice for this horrific crime. May Jessica's soul rest in peace.

I've been following this story the past couple days . . . was that body they found indeed that girls? So sad. I can only imagine how her mother must feel . . . I read she had her phone turned off when she was sleeping at home after she got off work . . . so she never got the call from school that she was absent. (I think the mom didn't realize it til 4 in the afternoon??). I know if it were me, I would be kicking myself - and I would be forever wondering if she would have been found alive and safe IF the call to the police were made sooner. Eek. It sure is a sick world out there . . . time to review safety to our kids - again and again.

Yes it was her dismembered body. It is sickening and I'm sure her mom is kicking herself for shutting off the phone. I know if I had kids living at home there is no way I would be shutting off the phone. What if she had gotten sick in school how would they get in touch with her. I still feel so bad for the parents because this is there worst nightmare ever. A child is suppose to outlive the parent the the otherway around. I truly hope they get this sick individual soon. Until he is caught people are going to be extremely scared in that community.

I'm still continuing to read up on it (there's a Facebook page too). You're right - what if the girl was sick, how could anyone at home be contacted if the phone is off - what if there was an emergency (which this actually was). So sad for the parents, family and friends in any case. I've been thinking about it a lot - it really hits home. I was reading the person who did it is probably someone in the community - that's pretty scary because that could be anyone and possibly someone you know.

This is beyond horrible. This poor little girl, and her family. I can't imagine the pain they are feeling. What kind of monster does this to an innocent child? I will never understand. Once these predators are found guilty they should never be released... lock them up or let them rot in a hole beneath the earth. My heart goes to the family...these kind of people that do this need to be erased from existence immediately in my opinion.

In a big city, children do not go alone to school. They are either taken by a family member who is grown up or they pay a school bus. Streets are not a safe place for children to be. And it is not enough that the parents tell the children not to go with a person they don`t know. I want to add that sometimes the children know the predators

This is really a sad and bad news. I agree, some parents prefer to homeschool their little kids due to this fear. It's really hard to trust our surroundings these days.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many sick people in the world that will take a child's life in cold blood like this. There is definitely nothing that this little girl could have done to her killer to make him hate her so much. It is simply the fact that poor little Jessica was in the wrong place at the wrong time. A guy that I know had a little sister that was killed several years ago and it is something that her family has never been able to get over. Hailey's body was found not even 100 yards away from their home.

Just last week I saw on Facebook about her missing. My heart really goes out to her parents, she's so young. How can anyone be so heartless as to hurt an innocent like that. May her soul be in peace now, and may she get the justice she deserves.

There are so many sick individuals out in the world today. I would not let my child walk to school alone in today's world that we live in.

It is terrible. I saw that on the news and really felt sick. I thought of what the family must be going through and could not imagine their anguish. I have been overprotective of my children for a long time and it seems that it just keeps getting more dangerous. I do hope they find who did it before another little girl is murdered.
