This is just outrageous. I expected more from a school like UST.
It reeks of self-righteousness and extreme fundamentalism. I didn't know that there are Catholics out there that can be this "cult-like" in terms of thinking and expressing their views. I think this guy (or girl) needs to be sent back in time. He/she belongs in the year where The Crusades was the "in" thing.
Being a La Salle graduate and an active supporter of the RH Bill, reading this just made my blood boil. I know I'm not exactly the religious type, but still this hits close to home.

I respect the stand of the university as a Catholic and pontifical university. However, when it resorted to name calling and insults, I am quite surprised. I thought that anyone affiliated with the religious will not stoop to that.
Truth to be told, I was schooled in a private and Catholic institution. I didn't attend UST but I know how it feels to be nurtured by a Catholic school. However, even if I am schooled as such,I retained my individual assessment of things. I will be always be grateful for the education they give me but I think there is a line between gratitude and blind obedience.
I have to say that I agree with points raised by the editorials of Ateneo and La Salle. Even if we are a Christian country, we should still respect other people's views and as a camps newspapers, they also shouldn't abuse the freedom of speech given by the government.
There should always be a line because people tend to abuse our freedoms and rights. Personally, I consider the piece as fanatical to the core.
I already read some sentiments from many alumni and students of USt. It's goodbecuase it is easy to generalize a community. For a newspaper under the jurisdiction of the Church, It may have misinterpreted crossed some important lines.

I think each of us deserves to show support in whatever issues that we think is right and not that because we are affiliated with any institutions...
UST's stand is I think just to show support to the Catholic church. They are not thinking of the consequences, the social aspects of not supporting the RH Bill.
I think a higher learning institution such as the UST have already researched and is aware that the prime causes of poverty is population growth, an uncontrolled population growth to be exact.
Where did they put their century old knowledge in social sciences?
I am disappointed...
