A budget, what?

I'm sitting here playing Poppit and myLotting when I should be attempting to put a budget together. May sound funny, but I haven't actually don't one since like the 1980's. Last week I called my financial advisor, told him I've got a job, and I have some severance money that I want to invest, and a 401k that I might want to roll over. First thing he says is, "do you have a budget". Nope, grumble grumble, so now I have to sit down and make one and figure out what my expenses are. Fine. I'm going. Do you do a budget or do you just wing it?

it will be Goan cuisine with all types of sea food. and also we will be having pasta. It will be a local restaurant. I mean we are on an Island in Goa and there is no place for the tourists to sit and enjoy the island. We are turning our house into restaurant because it has got perfect location with ample parking space. We were not using half the house so we decided to make it a restaurant. yeah. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I have a budget but it's not written down. I know about how much it takes for household expenses, groceries, and so on. My income fluctuates somewhat so it's hard to be real specific with it. Writing it down would take maybe a half hour for me. I do need to take charge of things a little better, but I know just what you mean about procrastinating!

I've never had a budget, or had to stick to a budget. Which I suppose makes me rather spoiled. I've always been on salary, so my pay is the same every month which makes it easier to keep an idea of where we're at in my head. Pretty much since we've been married and started putting everything in the same pot I've had a kind of 'system'. It only works because I'm cheap though. We use credit cards for pretty much everything we buy. Then on payday I pay off both cards, pay the bills as they come in, and then at the end of the month (or sometimes twice a month) anything extra goes into savings. If I don't put much into savings after one pay period then we tighten up spending over the next one. It's not a science by any means, and it only works for disciplined cheapos like my husband and I. And, it definitely doesn't help in your case, lol.

Creating a budget is simple. Following it and tracking is the challenge. A budget as in a diet is a wish list unless you have a way to track and follow it. It is pretty difficult to track all expenses that we do daily.

I never gave myself a budget, but now thats why I am living pay check to pay check. It is extremely wise to always have a budget. The best way to start is to figure out where you are spening all your money compared to your income. Only you can really decided what is needed and what isn't.

A budget is keeping track of your expenses vs your income, yes.

Hi dawnald, I don't have a budget written down, but because I am on a fixed income, I do know what I will have every month.. with that in mind I kinda of have an idea in my head of what I am going to be doing with my monies in any given month... I am no where like my friend SJ who budget down to the penny...I never did it even when I was working so its just not a habit I ever I involved myself with...all I knew was that it was payday and I had to pay some bills...

Long ago my ex used to have me write everything down. Drove me nuts. But now I really have to get at least an idea of what my major bills are. Don't know what my take home pay is yet though.
