...Send President Obama Back to Chicago — or Kenya

Here's yet another example of a "dog whistle" type remark made by a candidate's surrogate with the candidate apologizing shortly thereafter. In this case it was the son of Republican Wisconsin Senate candidate Tommy Thompson who said, "We have the opportunity to send President Obama back to Chicago — or Kenya," yesterday at a brunch hosted by the Kenosha County Republican Party. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/tommy-thompsons-son-obama-kenya-remark-17482292#.UHxVw4aInKc A woman in the crowd "joked", "We are taking donations for that Kenya trip." "The governor has addressed this with his son, just like any father would do," the campaign said in a statement. "Jason Thompson said something he should not have, and he apologizes." The son in question is 38 years old, not some adolescent who doesn't know any better! According to John Kraus, the spokesman for Thompson's opponent Tammy Baldwin, Tommy Thompson himself hasn't apologized for the remarks nor has he disavowed them. Who's going to be the first among the Republicans and conservatives on myLot to disavow them here? Annie

That was horrible and I disavow it. Completely immature especially for a 38 year old. But since Romney drop kicked the RP people out of the GOP, I guess I don't count as a conservative anymore.

Yeah I thought about posting to disavow it too, but I'm only a republican for the purpose of voting in primaries.

Oh, I agree...Obama's mentors and father were just as if not more radical than he is. Socialists and communists all of them.

Voting for Obama to be President for another 4 years... really?? No way!! I am not sure about the rest of the world.. Here in the US there are certain documents that you need to show, and they must be offical not just copies... NO BIRTH CERTIFICATE NO PLACE TO BE PRESIDENT!! This is a scandal that was shhhed away shortly after it came out... I believe he got away with it because of the uniqueness of his leadership and what it would mean for a major minority in this country... On this one point alone I would not be able to vote for him.. NO ONE Should be ABOVE the LAW!! Especially if that person is representing the whole country... I do not approve of the other scandals that surrounded other presidents, Obama is no different!! On top of that within the first quarter of presidency he signed a bill that created debt that my unborn grandchildren will be paying on.. and my sons are 2,6... I do not care how it got there Obama's signature is on the dotted line...yes I have had this debate with a couple people in the last 3 and a half years.. So I am not against Obama because the color of his skin or speical interest groups that he represents.. I just can not stay by that..

I'll disavow his remarks when Obama apologizes for all the things he has said and done to the conservatives, the Tea Party, the candidate he's running against and to his own party members, like Hillary. Tell me what you think of this collection of 'birther' videos, I really truely can't tell if he's really saying what I think he's saying. Now, Michelle on the other hand is pretty clear in what she said. https://www.youtube.com/embed/gBJM48sr9QY

And again, I realize Obama has NO CONTROL over his followers; but the tweets coming from them promising to kill, rape and riot are disgusting. You'd think with them being in the news like they are he'd say to them STOP IT?

Annie, the idiot that made that awful abortion comment, yes - I am VERY against that type of rhetoric. But insinuating that we need to vote Obama out and send him home, nah man nah - not a big deal. Saying to chicago or Kenya, well, this is what he identifies with right?

If it's a contest over which side has the most idiots, then I think we could be here all night. Unfortunately, there are those who take their political campaigning and fervor to really bad levels. That was a stupid remark and unnecessary. However, it may be based on that fellow's belief that Obama may have been born in Kenya. Whether you agree with that idea or not makes it either more or less stupid depending on your personal belief or non-belief in the birth conspiracy theory. But it's not a dog whistle remark, if I understand from Chris Matthews the correct definition of the term. I believe it has to be some code word for racism (again, ask Chris Matthews because he wrote the code book and only he knows what all the words are - I mean, I would never have guessed that "apartment" was racist). It can't be racist. Obama's father was from Kenya, he's got lots of relatives there and to suggest that maybe his mother gave birth to him while in Kenya cannot possibly be racist. What would be racist about that? I mean, this is the same political climate where "Chicago" is a racist code word, so if that's right, we can't suggest Obama go to either place... Sure it's a stupid remark. If you're a public figure it's always stupid to make those kinds of remarks in public. If it's campaign season, it's doubly stupid. But since the left didn't mind Biden's "put y'all back in chains" comment, nor Obama's racist remarks in the various videos we have seen lately, then I don't think there's much room to complain. Unless you want to start by denouncing Obama and Biden for their racist remarks. But I know you won't.

It's sad that it's not about doing the right thing but let's spread all these lies. Not religious but someone help these people because they are blinded by their hate.

anniepa I'll disavow all the nasty comments..but this one is mild compared to others...FTR I don't believe Obama was born in Kenya, but no doubt some would like him to go there. I don't see this 'as bad as' claiming Romney killed someone
