I'm not really that young anymore but I have recently forced myself into this kind of dancing that required one to twist the knee. I must have overdone it because after the practice my left knee has started to hurt. Since then, I no longer move normally. I still feel the pain on my left knee. I can still manage to walk like normally but sitting and standing now gives me some pain there, most especially when I really sit on the floor and I try to stand up, it really hurts. Did I break a bone or what? Have you experienced this? What did you do to heal it? Your input would be most appreciated.

I highly doubt you broke a bone. i have been dancing professionally for 15 years, and knee injuries are very common. Twisting your knees and feet out stresses your knees a lot, as does jumping and turning. You more than likely have torn something. May that be a ligament, tendon, etc, I don't know. If the pain continues I would recommend seeing a doctor. I'm sure after some rest and recovery you will be fine, but it's always good to see a doctor to make sure it's nothing serious, and so you know what to take care of and how to properly take care of it. Best wishes!

Thanks Ariel, I do feel I need to rest this painful knee. It must have been a ligament that snapped.

Hi Ivit! I do hope I can get that much-needed rest soon. We're still practicing and the presentation is scheduled on the 24th of this month.

First off if the pain continues for longer then a few days it is better to go to a doctor just to check it out if possible, but I don't think you broke or tore anything, because you say you don't have pain when you walk at least you say can walk normally so my suspicion is a pulled muscle or tendon. Tendons in particular are a real hassle as they are very difficult to treat, tendinitis can take ages to heal and sometimes require medication and support, like a brace or bandage. Depending on the injury rubbing with either ice packs or heat packs (whichever works for you) will alleviate the pain and using anti-inflammatory ointment which your doctor or pharmacist may suggest. I do hope you get well soon so you can have dancing again.

Thanks, Leeloo. The sad part is, I couldn't wear any sort of bandage or brace since the dance will be staged next week. (sigh)
