is it worthwhile to sponsor an inter-school spelling bee?

Last year I spearheaded an inter-school spelling bee and the experience wasn't really very gratifying since some sponsors who promised to sponsor did not fulfill their promises. Secondly, the event ended very soon since the participants were knocked out while we were still doing the easy round. This year, I am thinking of spearheading the second spelling bee because I found out that activities like boxing and taekwondo activities are given more importance in our place. I feel there is a need to put up another inter-school spelling bee. My question is, is it really worthwhile to have this sort of competition or will I be wasting my time and effort here? Your opinions will be highly appreciated.
