As I have said in my discussion
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2711555.aspx?p=0
We are observing ‘Chandi-puja’, in our home and the house is FULL; this puja needs so many things, flowers of so many varieties, colors, different types of leaves, herbs, sandal wood, coconuts; red sandal wood, honey, milk, curd, water from 7 different rivers and so many other things. New clothes for Goddesses, Gods, mirror, combs, make up articles; sweets; fruits, dry fruits etc etc..
.
My sons could collect so many things needed; some were bought from shops that sell puja material; I am sorry to see that many things said to be packed in small bottles and pouches; are not there at all; the bottles and pouches are empty
.
The flowers are not fresh, one seller said ; he gets them from Kolkata; they are probably recycled; means from old ‘huge’ garlands that were presented to political leaders and VIP’ s; what a shame.
Persons that sell these puja materials belong to a particular community; they are known to be dishonest; expert in selling adultered stuff; they don’t fear God even; money is everything for them.
Any way, we have to tolerate it, the cheater will be punished by the Almighty.
What is your view opinion; should they cheat like that?
Please share your valued opinion and comments.
Thanks in advance.

Hi kalyani mam, sad to hear about this. Puja items must be unique and new one, it is not a good thing to use the recycled things for holy puja. As you mentioned the shop keepers selling the old things, really they are cheating a lot and deserved for the punishment, in this modern days people are running behind money and they don't give importance to this kind of holy things

It seems to me that, although this is a Hindu practice, the Christian story of the "Widow's mites" might be applicable here:
"As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in her two mites. "Truly I tell you," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on." (Luke 21:1-4)
Puja is the practice of making offerings to the goddess so that she will come to your house as a guest. I am sure that the goddess will not enjoy empty bottles, fake and stale foods, faded flowers and water from the tap instead of from seven rivers and that she will be much more pleased with honest gifts gathered from your own home and garden, however short they fall of the 'full requirements'!
The commercialisation of festivals is a very old practice. Throughout history (and, no doubt, before) people have seen fake goods, high prices and unscrupulous merchants who are only concerned about making as much money as possible out of people whose genuine desire is to please their gods (or even to make as good a show as their neighbours).
We should always think of the REAL meaning behind our celebrations. Too often, what we are doing is merely trying to outdo others with an outward show and we find that we have forgotten what the celebration is really about!

It is very sad to know about this. Now-a-day's the consciousness has completely vanished from many people's hearts. The other day my daughter's wedding was performed. Since garland and dress give a grand look for the wedding, I ordered for a grand rose petal curved garland for 4000 rupees for pair for afternoon lunch. For marriage jasmine garlands were ordered. When the bride and bridegroom sat for lunch at 3.00 PM, they removed their garlands and kept it there on the table nearby. We were so tired from early morning and with the marriage function and greeting people that we also did not notice. When we finished eating, the garlands were not there. Probably the flower decorator has taken it to sell it in the market. What to say and whom to say?

although w e do not have your customs I respect the need for
the items you tell about.it sounds like its really a beautiful
time Chani puja.I know that these items must be nice
not some worn out raggedy things,.I know here in the US we also
have people who cheat and sell second hand u sed stuff at
new stuff prices.so wrong,

Actually I feel that people that cheat others like this should be punished immediately as opposed to waiting to be punished by the Almighty in the end. For me, I don't understand how there can be a person that is able to cheat another person in this world. I think that the reason that people are like this is because of the fact that they didn't have the good kind of upbringing that the majority of people have in their lives.

I agree they should be punished immediately, but the police is corrupted, they have shares from the cheaters.

I definitely think that those who cheat others, it will one day catch up with them. I don't see how they can feel right doing it! If you get paid for something you do, or make, then you can be proud. But when you cheat, how can you feel happy and proud of yourself?
