Pierced Ears and Questions

I got my ears pierced nearly a year ago and they still get crusty. How long do they stay crusty for? When do they finally heal so I don't have to wear earrings all the time? I've had the worst trouble with my ears! I'm almost wishing I never got them pierced... but now that I have like 50 pairs of earrings, I probably shouldn't let the holes close back up! (umm... yeah, there is some name for that in economics of it being a bad idea... but whatever) So how long does it take for ears to look nice and pretty like a QVC model and not all red and crusty and disgusting?

I got my ears pierced about 50 years ago. In the beginning I didn't have any trouble...they healed quickly with no crusty problems. I used only 18kt gold. Howwever, when I went for the cheap ones the trouble began. I got infection. I still have the holes but cannot wear even 18kt gold so I have quit trying. I have some very beautiful emerald earrings I bought in Coombia when I was there and every time I see them in my jewelry box when I getting dressed to kill I can't helpfeeling said. I might suggest that you use an anteseptic ointment each time you put your earrings in. It might help to heal them.

It's clean to leave the crust on though? What if I just don't change my earrings for months and don't even take them out for cleaning? I tend to leave mine in for a week at a time and don't really pick at them or anything.

I don't think beauticians learn anything about ear piercing in beauty school. ;)

Hmm... I don't remember my ears getting crusty enough for others to see it. I do know that if I put earings in after not wearing them for a while it pops out crust... and I've had my ears peirced since I was 6 years old. I would just try keeping the area clean with that special cleaner stuff... Maybe your ears don't like the material your rings are made up of? Maybe only use surgical steel earrings or gold.
