YEDA Center for Technical Communications was founded in 1993 by its current director, Dr. Mati Schwarcz, as Israel’s only training center for technical communicators. The center quickly achieved its two-fold goal: - Raising the professional level of technical communications writing and practices in the country. - Providing English speakers with the opportunity to retrain and find jobs as technical communicators in hi-tech companies. Throughout the 90’s the school grew by leaps and bounds to keep pace with Israel’s burgeoning hi-tech industry. YEDA’s thorough training methods and sensitivity to the changing requirements of the industry firmly established its reputation. Graduates staffed the technical communication departments of well known international companies such as Intel, Amdocs, ECI Telecom, Scitex, IBM, SAP, and others. Over the years, many graduates have moved into managerial positions. YEDA’s training was early recognized by Israel’s Ministry of Labor and Welfare, which consequently funded the retraining of hundreds of eligible academics over the years. The success of the retraining program led to YEDA being selected by the Jewish Agency to participate in its Aliyah 2000 program. After meeting with potential Olim in cities throughout North America, YEDA succeeded in bringing a group of families to Israel. Eligible family members were retrained and placed as technical communicators in hi-tech companies. Today, YEDA’s course has been successfully revised for an international audience as an online training program. In addition, YEDA’s R&D department has developed a comprehensive Technical Communications software application scheduled for release by the end of 2005. The application is expected to revolutionize the field of technical writing, enabling writers to produce documentation much faster and at a higher quality than is currently possible.
