I love going on day trips this time of the year to see all the beautiful colors on the trees. Autumn just seems to be the shortest season of them all because it gets a lot colder near the end of it. I try to take a few day trips just north of us between the last week in September until mid October, then I head a little south for a few trips within the next few weeks. It is like following the colors of Fall. I guess I get this from my Mom and Dad. They would pack us 6 kids in the station wagon along with a picnic and my Dad would just drive up north and find a spot to stop for a picnic. Many times he had no idea where we would end up either, an adventure. We would have a blast playing outside, collecting leaves, playing by the stream if there were one and then having the picnic. Great memories for just the price of gas, it was cheaper back then but that is another discussion for a later date. Do you like to day day trips? When and where do you like to go? What is your favorite memory of a family day trip?

I love day trips. Most of my family day trips involved going fishing and we would plan the night before so that we would be ready to leave very early in the morning, before dawn usually. We would take food and snacks, all our fishing gear, and get out to the bait stores by dawn so we could start fishing while the sun came up. Fishing is better earlier in the morning when it is still cool. Usually on days like this we would move from one fishing spot to another to another throughout the day. Sometimes we would just drive around looking at the scenery. Day trips are fun and can be a nice adventure especially if you don't know ahead of time where you are going to end up or what you will see along the way. I hope you take lots of pictures of those beautiful fall colors.

Your day trips sound as much fun as ours. I love to fish but do not get too much of a chance to. Do you keep what you catch or do you toss them back. It would be a great time to bring the grill and cook the fish right there. Catch of the day on the picnic menue. Yes, I always have a camera with me, many times I am hanging out the window trying to get that one great shot. My husband does the same when I am driving. Not the most safest way but many times the best picture comes that way. Happy Day tripping and thanks so much for your response.
