Comforts of Home

"There's No Place like Home" I know there is no place like my home, for sure. There are many things that make a home of residence feel like, your home. Each individual person will feel differently with what makes them feel at home though. One thing I am sure about is that when we are away from our homes we will all feel a little out of place. Those things that make us at home will be lost to us until we return. We all feel the effects of travel and staying out of your home for too long. there have been various occasions where I've had to go out and buy something because I forgot it at home. For instance a tooth brush one time, surely can not go long without one of those! And one time I did not bring enough clothes to pack for the trip I had to go out and get some to tide over because there was no where to wash mine. I believe for me the one thing I miss the most when I am far from home is comfort foods. I know this might seem silly, right? But so many times in travel we have to rely on take out foods. I enjoy that but not if it will be many days on end. At times there is no way to make your own food, no kitchen services available. So this is when I start to miss my home and my cabinets full of my favorite comfort foods! No matter what it is that makes your home yours I am sure there is no place like it, for you either. Lets share our thoughts and experiences, see where our discussion may take us!

echo I had a home in an apt 2 bedroom I shared with my son so when he lost his job and just could not get any kind of a job we got behind on the rent, were evicted and homeless. now for my age and health sake he helped me to get in here and while its not a conventional home with family he comes to see me each week and I have a best friend Nelda whom I share things with, for me my dear old computer and monitor and also my big beanie baby collection are parts of the home I once had and they do comfort me too,Gold Crest is a retirement center not an old folks home or nursing which I would never have gone into. here i am allowed some dignity,

Family is a great comfort in our homes. If they know us well they can be of great help in times of need and you will share many great memories that you will with only family and no one else. I love to hear about happiness in homes like you have in yours.

There is no place like home. It is a place for me and my family to relax. We have our own choice of food and drinks to have. It is lovely at home that we have our pet dogs. I love to travel overseas to different destinations. I find it delightful to explore interesting looking cities, towns and villages. I like seeing picturesque countryside and gorgeous looking beaches. It is a wonderful feeling after coming home from a trip to sit in my own bed. When away I miss my bungalow, pets and close family members like my mom.

You are truly blessed to have both the comforts and pleasures in a good home and what you describe from your travels sounds amazing as well. Even those unique experiences of travel though are always different than when you feel at home and want to relax. Your family is near you at your home and that can be a comfort in itself. And always sleeping in your own bed will be better than any other bed in the world.

I would also like to be in agreement with you, and say that "East or West, home is the best". One may go to many countries, or states. Yet, one never feels anything like home. Even if the home is ordinary, and not as attractive as say a Penthouse, or a good hotel, one feels more comfortable at home. And yes, we at times a lot of things about our homes, when we are away.

My home is ... I almost would say modest but that is not correct. It is not even ordinary. It is just, small. But it is my home and I feel comfort here that I don't any where else. You're right in saying that about our homes.

That is one interesting take on it. I'm sorry you feel at hell if you're not in your home...

Hello twin If you asked this question few years ago, I would say anywhere is better than home. I was young and I had conflict with everyone in my family from parents, sisters and brothers, it looked like we had fight every single day. I felt not comfortable and wanted to go far away from home to live by my own. That's when I decided to pack my stuff and travel to Bali (an Island 15 hours away from my hometown) and studied there. But then living away from family has changed my opinion, and I agree there is no place like home. Even I got pocket money from school and had extra income from side job which a lot more than the allowance from my parents, but I still feel like something missing from my life. Then I moved to Jakarta, at least its near to hometown than Bali but I was still unhappy. And in 2009 I ranaway from my dorm and going home, and everything is getting better. I dont know, but I guess I missed everything about my home thats why I decided to go home.

It is normal to fight with family sometimes. Every day if you're fighting then it is stressful of course. It sounds like you just needed a little break time from that. Then when you get away you start to miss your home and your family. Even though you're fighting you'll still miss your family and love them. Your home is something that will always draw you back. Its kind of like a magnet for us I think. Some people can live somewhere completely different than where they grew up but I wonder if they miss it a lot when they do that. Its good that you got away for awhile and you were able to accomplish some things in your school. I haven't done much accomplishment in my life.

I havent done a lot in life, my life was a big mess before. I just started to rebuild it not so long ago but I have so many plans and hopefully I could make it to be come true. I remember, when I was living in the dorm school I had to share the room with other girls. I think that was also the reasons why I missed my home so much, I have more privacy at home than anywhere else. You are right, our home is like a magnet and nothing better than our home. We have more privacy and freedom to do whatever we like, we can manage or arrange the room as the way we please and many more. I grew up in several places due to my parents' jobs but I missed it all and I consider each of them as my hometown. But I guess this is the last place I stay Im tired of moving and packing , at least I wont move from here not in the near future.

Oh I've felt somewhat sad for children or people in general who move a lot. I don't think I would enjoy to have to move so often. But for you it sounds like a little bonus because you have different towns that you can feel at home in. I wouldn't like to share my small space with others either in a dorm room. I have trouble sometimes not having privacy when I stay some where else too. I can even get grumpy if people don't allow me some privacy! And so its always good I try to find some quiet when I am unable to be completely alone. My life now is a mess! I haven't accomplished one thing that is noteworthy except to myself, that still counts however.

Yes that's true it is a place of safety as well as comfort sometimes. There are people who also don't have safety at home too though.

There's another saying that goes (something to the effect of) "Home is where the heart is." Some times we get caught up in our every day living and we take a break from the hustle and bustle. You may be gone for a couple of days and when you return, you're so grateful to be "home." Home is where you have your own personalized place, your favorite pictures on the walls to special moments you've created. There's nothing like home!

Yeah I think you got that saying correct. I always feel very much more relaxed after a few days of the "hustle and bustle" that has kept me from my home.

i always ran away from home when i was young, although am a silent person who never talks too much, i am wild and carefree, but i am friendly... i have been into the company of people who knew nothing about me or from where i am and what kind of family i have, and i have worked hard labor just to survive. i ran away from home not really knowing what i wanted from the outside world. but every time i decided to go back when times gets so tough on me, my home and my family is always there so happy to have me back and take me in...my room is always there every time i leave, waiting for my return.. those were my younger days...i have been to many places, and there really is no place like home.

It sounds like you've experienced many places away from your home. You have also found the truth in "No place like home". A welcome home is always nice and when you've been away there isn't a comfort within the home itself that equals the reward of just being there.
