Learning a New Trick!

"Ever knit in the round" she asked? That was a question I was asked a couple of weeks ago when I stated to a friend that I would like to knit a certain hat that she makes. My answer to her was "no."
Two weeks ago my friend invited me over to her house to learn to knit using circular needles. She told me it was easy. With a little hesitation I did go visit her and she showed me once how to cast on (which is the standard way) and to knit on circular needles. I was unable to cast on using her method, but I did however pick up quickly on knitting on circular needles.
She said to call her when I was ready to finish the hat. The next day I did call her to talk me through it. I was able to complete the hat within the hour. I was quite pleased with the results.
Later that week I completed 3 more hats. They are coming out so well. The first three were gifts. I have a 2 more completed and will be giving them for gifts as well.
I am hoping to learn how to make hats with earflaps. These will be Christmas gifts for my grandchildren. If I have enough time I would like to try knitting mittens in the round. My usual method is using 2 needles.
Learning a new trick can be fun and also it keeps your brain sharp. Don't be afraid, just do it!

Wow, good job on doing something new.
Quite interesting, it can be that fun, you know. Learning new things is so therapeutic indeed for the brain and for the body as a whole. We make use of our brain cells wisely here. Learning a new language can be somewhat similar to this. I'm planning to be engage in that activity soon. Thanks

I have tried to learn a new language but failed. I just didn't care if I learned it or not.

When we learn something new we feel a sense of achievement and it makes us feel good inside, and we have satisfaction at seeing the end product! These gifts are unique and will be treasured! My new trick is smaller in comparison but to me it's a great way of exercising the brain, my mother loves suduko you know those puzzles with figures and I got her to teach me how to do them, and once I picked up the grasp of how they worked, I got stuck in, now I can't leave them alone, when I watch television and the commercials on, I grab my suduko puzzle book and work through them.

Suduko doesn't do it for me. The only thing I get out of it is frustration! I am not good with numbers.

Hi friend! I really admire people who can do knitting because I don not know how to do it myself. Although I have knowledge in sewing, cross stitch and crochet but when it comes to knitting, I was not just able to find time to learn it. It is also better if we can give something as gift something that we do by our self.

I love giving homemade gifts. People have said my work is great and when they actually wear what you have made that is a true testament to the fact that what you have made is good.
