Apart from the portability and cost factor between laptops and desktops PCs..Can anyone point out added advantage of using a desktop over a laptop PC. Seems that the desktop is almost going to go obsolete in terms of home use. apart from internet cafes, the desktop PC is getting to be like an endangered species, hardly anyone use it anymore.just wondering whether if there is anything at all about using the dektop that a laptop cannot match up. Even i personally decided to get a laptopto replace my old desktop, knowing that , after plugging it to some hardware ,it is not going to move much. thinking that if i ever want to bring it around i can.but cannot with desktop. Everything a desktop can do,so can a laptop plus the added convenience of mobility.Trying to think of some feature or use of a desktop that a laptop cannot match up with but cannot think of any.surprisingly ! Can any mylotters think of any advantages of a desktop over a laptop?

Desktops and laptops both have their uses I have a lap top and a desktop.I also have a tablet as well and I find that I use all three.I use my desktop for gaming as it is more powerful than my laptop and the wired internet connection is much quicker than the WI-FI on my laptop.I also do most of the work I get set to do outside of lectures on my desktop as I find it much more comfortable to work at a desk. And I find that with a lap top on a desk you have to sit with your neck bent as the screen tends to be below eye level causing neckache.I find the monitor for my desktop is just at the right height.

All of the above. Yes, the desktop is becoming the dinosaur, but I still like mine. It all boils down to personal preferences. I really don't need to stay 'connected' wherever I go 24/7. I do not suffer from internet/socialnetwork/email withdrawal. If I do need portability, I have my tablet, but that usually stays home too.

It is far easier to replace components or upgrade them with a desktop computer, which obviously extends the life of a system by keeping it up to date. There is also the fact that a laptop offers limited space for additional hardware due to the need to remain compact, so you could not have a laptop with 2 or 3 hard drives or a selection of expansion cards. I have both a laptop and a desktop computer, both of which have their own particular advantages. It will be a long while before desktop computers approach the obsolete stage.

Ok I have both so here is a list of advantage the desktop over a pc at the moment not a lot though but here go The DVD drive in a PC last longer than the ones in laptop , because laptop is always moving it can cause the lenses to shift . Normally have to get a new one in maybe a year . Also the PC hard drive can last longer than the laptop again because of the laptop constant movement . Oh well thats all I could come up with

It depends! If you are usually on the move and need a system to work with, a laptop is your best bet. But in the real sense of it a lot of peeps utilize their laptops. for such peeps a desktop would have been more appropriate. Happy mylotting!
