In india, how many people do i have to compete within order to qualify for cricket at national level?

It depends a lot on your own talent. Yet, it might be statistically 15 to 20 people trying to get one batting slot, and 9-10 for each bowling one.

Sometimes, even very good players cannot get into side at National and international level- see the current status of the likes of Yusuf Pathan, S. Badrinath etc.

I think you have to compete at different levels, first at the grass root level to compete for a local club or school or college you read in. Then you have to compete at the state level to get a berth in the state squad for the Rangy Trophy, then in the regional level for inclusion in the Duoleep Trophy and then comes the possibility of being considered for the highest level of cricket in the country that is to be included in the 'Team India'.
