How much influence should one person have?

There is much discussion about the fall from grace on Lance Armstrong, I do not feel that what this man has done should effect the Charity he has worked so hard for. That is all he has done in regard to a very important charity, he had no power, nor did he involve himself except as a fund raiser. I don't think the charity should suffer. However our other challenge of the week concerned The Boy Scouts os America, a very famous, active young boys club. This has been the guiding force for boys clubs for over a hundred years. Now it has come to light that not only have pedifiles been present in this organization but even when discovered and dismissed from the club their identity has been protected. Considering the damage this does to others I think this organization should be severly punished. How do you feel?

Of course BSA should be punished. I'd go further and say that all BSA meetings and activities should be required to have one parent present at all times and no boy should be allowed alone with a leader. I think the world has become more evil in the past 20 years. I do not think these things have always happened in the numbers they are happening today, although some people say they have and they just were not reported. When my boys were in BSA I was at every meeting or had someone I trusted in attendance. I trusted no one with my precious children, yet they are healthy and independent adults today. My vigilance did not harm them but probably saved them from unspeakable horrors. Parents today should take the time to be with their children even if it means they give up their own enjoyment and have to re-arrange their schedule. Because evil is afoot and it is everywhere.

We owe our knowledge of these deeds to world wide communication, I think if you do any research of human history you will find all have been present since the begining. Of course our cultures have made rules that other animals don't face. Most of what we call evil is accepted as natural in the animal kingdoms. This of course is no excuse for what we humans do to each other. I also agree that parents must do much more to protect their young. We have lost sight of what is important in our busy lives and now are paying the price in the harm done to our young.

Hi savypat, I agree with you that the charity should not suffer. As far The Boys Scouts are concerned, those organizations everywhere attract pedophiles, the sad thing is nothing has been done about it for all those years. Maybe the whole organization has to be disbanded and just start over from scratch with new rules put in place. Everything has to be in the open. There is no guarantee that there aren't still pedophiles involved with the organization, not only in the US, but also in Canada, where we only recently had a the same sort of scandal, and I'm sure in other countries as well. I feel bad too for the good people who have worked tirelessly for these organizations for years without any knowledge of this. Those who knew about it and kept quiet are as bad as the pedophiles themselves. At least the pedophiles are sick and need help with their problem. Blessings.

Personally I feel that anyone who is in a personal Spotlight like the pedifiles from the Boy Scouts of America, these people do need to be severely punished, just as all the Catholic priests who have long abused boys. This makes these people all look bad and not to be Trusted, and this is bad for everyone wanting to be involved. Now in the case of Lance Armstrong... Personally what he did with the steroid use is wrong, but not the first time someone in Sports has done so. Sometimes I think they make too big of a deal with things like this, and should just let things go and let him give cause to any Charity he chooses. Why hurt the Charity for something they did not do?

Absolutely! Anyone responsible for turning a blind eye without bringing perpetrators to justice should have to stand up and face what they did. How dare them allow pedophiles to stroll comfortably away to assault another day. I know the Boys Scouts of America has been a great organization for boys all over the country but how many children have been ruined because someone turned their head?

hello, i totally agree with you my friend. what lance armstrong has done for people and his charitable institutions should not suffer. because thats a good deed and it should continue as it is. he may have cheated in his sports and thats totally a different thing but what he has done for people suffering from cancer is a noble thing. and he should be credited for that and that glory should not be taken from him. his charity is a good place which have helped a lot of people and it will continue to do so. so i still respect lance armstrong inspite of everything.

My dear friend celticeagle, This is a very configious discussion because every person has different influences. Actually influences are the individual subjects. For an example, I am influenced because of an idea but another person has no value for that idea. Thanks ^___^ Happy mylotting.

I think that anyone, organization or individual, should be punished severely for covering up for pedophiles. Child sx abuse is the most horrendous crime. There is no excuse for protecting child abusers. I believe that if a person is in a position to bring a criminal to justice they should. Especially when there are victims involved, children in particular.
