Many people come into work, and their cards are declined. Now many dont know the machine gives the reason. For example if you use debit and the money isnt in the account and your withdrawing it will say insufficient funds.
Once ever in my lifetime has my card been decline, it was when the chiop was first new and I forgot my password, and after 3 tries it blocks you out. The cashier told me this, and it showed up saying this.
Now would you be embarrassed if you knew this and you didnt have money in your account?. I know some this is regular occurance to them, and they just think it's normal. Whereas some customers apologize, and use the excuse of I don;t know why it's not working there is money there, and repeating it.

Hi ricki! I remember when my credit card was declined at the mall because it was cut by the office. That was my fault also because I was not able to pay it on time.

I know that the machine says this. It says "insufficient funds" for us atleast. Sometimes it says "unknown decline" but very rarely, and I'm not sure why it says that. I try to whisper it to the customer, or I just say "It won't go through."
This has happened to me once before myself, but it's been years and I was embarrassed. I just used another card and hated having to do that.

Why should someone be embarrassed if there was some mix-up and they ended up having less money in their account than they believed they did? I've had that issue before. Sometimes, it really is an issue regarding a bank error or there having been an unauthorized charge. Or, something that was supposed to be deposited had not yet hit the account.
Tight finances should not be a source of embarrassment. Creating inhumane work conditions and underpaying one's workers should be.

For me I have to say that it really depends on where I am when the decline happens. For example, when I have funds in my paypal account I will use that debit card on a regular basis and there are times that I will forget that I'm running low on money in my paypal account so I will accidentally try to use it and it will decline. This has happened to me at a store where I am a regular so I will just tell the lady that I will pull out my regular debit card.
However, I did have a decline once at Babies R Us and it embarrassed me. The reason that it embarrassed me is that I knew for a fact that there was way more than enough money to cover my purchase in our checking account. I ended up writing them a check. The reason that it declined was because of the fact that the purchase amount was larger than our daily limit on our bank debit card.

Well, maybe at that particular moment I would flush and feel embarrassed, but these people don’t know me from Adam’s house cat, so I am not embarrassed for long. I once was at Publix and had done my shopping for the month and there was some kind of glitch with their machinery or the satellite that makes their machine work… it said declined when I had the money in the bank. They let me take my groceries and go to my bank and get the money. Publix knows me and knows that I am a loyal shopper there at least once a month. It’s good to be trusted. I went to my bank and made the withdrawal for cash and went back and paid them.

Wow, that's really nice that Publix let you do that. I'm not sure any of the Publixes near me would trust a customer enough to let them take the groceries and then come back with the money, even if the customers are loyal.
I think that's so cool that they did that and it shows how good of a customer you've been to them and that they felt they could trust you to come back and pay.

It happened at Walmart once too, and that was embarrassing for a minute. They set my groceries aside and I went and got the money and paid them. It made me flush, but not much more. Outside of Walmart I don't know them... outside of Publix or Ingles, I don't know them... and they don't know me outside of being a shopper there.

I would be embarrassed for making such a mistake and using the wrong card. It happened to me once when I was using my grocery debit card and thought the money had already been transferred into it. Then there was the time when I had a chip card and I invariably change it by putting in one number wrong. So in both cases I had to use another card. It turned out all right, in the first case, the money got transferred in and in the second, I went to the bank, and got the pin numbers changed to what it should have been.

This has only happened to me once and I was so embarrassed. It was at a small little kiosk in the mall and I wanted to use my debit card to buy something. I knew for a fact there was enough money in the account but the cashier was saying my card was declined. I even got on the app on my phone and there was plenty of money available in my account but for some reason it just wouldn't go through. I was absolutely horrified.

Hi ricki!
When I was younger and got my first bank account and started my first job I went crazy and I had forgotten to keep a record of my spending. So one day when I took my sisters all out to eat and when the check arrived for me to pay I gladly gave them my new plastic debit card and they came back and the man said to me that it was declined. I didn't understand y so I told him to run it again, he did. And it said insufficient funds. I felt really embarrassed because my sisters all pitched in and today they still make fun of me which is a good thing!!
At the end of the night we all had desert payed by my little sister. I felt soo very bad and now I always make sure I have enough money on my card to cover whatever I buy. And come this Friday we r all going to eat on our anniversary and I know now to have enough and then extra to cover desert!

Never had a chance and I dont want this happened so I always check my card if it has enough balance before I purchase. I enrolled it online so I could check it once in a while. But if this happen to me, for sure I will be embarassed especially if the line is quite long. We really need to have enough cash in case this thing happen.

hi, this happened to me. Once i went for shopping, That was the first time i was using my debit card. The account was with good money balance. After i finished selecting all the goods, i went to pay the bills. The executive said , the card isn't working.
I have no words, at that time, actually i have all these mixed feelings, dilemma, confusion, mind went blank and all sots of things. My friend beside me was laughing at me, and asked is there any money in you account? I felt so bad, and irritated , but couldn't say anything, because of my situation.
Good thing was, i kept some extra cash with me,as i thought it will be useful. It helped me.
Later i went to the bank and inquired ,about the same. Then ,i came to know that, actually my debit card was not activated , by then. we need to activate it by withdrawing about $4 from ATM . so even if i have the money in my account, it was not working.
I felt good after knowing the details.

Yes it happened to me once when we were traveling in Thailand. I was using my credit card and the first two transactions were okay. On the third transaction it was blocked. Good thing I have another credit card with me. When I called my bank, they said they automatically blocked my card because I was using it in another country and it is a red flag for fraud or unauthorized transaction. They did unblock it after 24 hours after I established my identity, answer he security questions, that sort of thing.

I have only ever had my card declined once and I DID have money in my account. My card was declined I found out later because there was something going on with the weather and power in the area of the country where the servers were for my card. I called the company to find out what was going on because when I checked my balance I had several hundred dollars, but was declined at the checkout. It was embarrassing because I knew that I DID in fact have money.

I would be embarrassed.. Why go to a store try to buy something know that you do not have any money to get the item or items that you need/want.. Now one time I tried using the wrong debt card before.. the card was expired and forgot to take it out when I go the new one.. I was a regular there and never had that problem before.. He tried it four times before i realized it was the wrong card... That was extremely embarrassing.. I could not imagine doing that all of the time.. what does that person think money will just magically appear..

My card got declined while I was traveling. It was so frustrating. I had called and let the credit card company know that I was traveling and where I was traveling to. I tried to buy diapers and wipes when I got to my destination, instead of packing a weeks worth on the plane, and it was declined. I was furious. I made a huge stink in front of a line of people.
They ran it again, after the credit card people got their act together, and it ran fine. The credit card people have not messed up since then. There are constantly credit card offers that will give me money for opening an account with them that also have good reward programs. I do not need my credit card company, but I am sure that they want my business.
